The woodland part of Orr Park had sustained significant damage from a storm that had devastated Montevallo in 1983. The city planned to cut down the damaged cedar trees, but Tim Tingle, a nearby artist, intervened and proposed turning the dead trees into pieces of art instead. Over several years, Tim etched faces, figures, and characters from stories onto the trunks of more than thirty trees. Tim started carving the trees in 1993. We now call the carved trees Tanglewood.
