Why A Future Run by Artificial Intelligence Is Exciting (& Not Terrifying)

And what "new" opportunities it presents to humanity as a result

A life where AI robots have replaced jobs and control the world's money; where it dictates who's in and out of the criminal system, performs surgeries and transports people all over the world seems like a futuristic sci-fi movie set in the year 3000.

However, it could be as little as a decade away. Maybe not all of it, but definitely some of it.

As terrifying as that might sound, I would like to present an alternative perspective that involves a good dose of excitement and a strong bout of optimism.

Don't get me wrong, a robot performing life-saving surgery still freaks me out just the same way it does when I think of one flying me 35,000ft above the ground in an airplane.

I don't like the idea of being rejected by a very unforgiving robot either, whether that be in a bank, supermarket, or on public transport.

That's the thing with robots, they're so stubborn. There's no room for negotiation.

Now, I know, job security is a big one. Having billions of people living without a purpose, feeling lost, hopeless, and redundant is not the life anyone wants to see. Certainly not me, anyway.

But what if there was/is another way? One where all of our comforts, needs, and amenities are taken care of by willing AI technology…. A world where no one has to be subjected to work they don't want to do… Where exploitation is a thing of the past… And where all that "new" time can be used to create art and music, build, grow, and commune with the land and animals, explore spiritual and soulful endeavours, speak with ancestors, dance, be in the body, explore the mind, sit under the stars, and sing.

But more importantly, with the way things are going, do we even have a choice?

It seems AI is set to replace:

  • Bankers
  • Surgeons
  • Doctors
  • Judges
  • Lawyers
  • Drivers
  • Delivery services
  • Pilots
  • Manufacturing (including woodwork, clothing, transport, etc..)

It's even slowly taking over education too.

We are inadvertently at the mercy of algorithms that have a natural bias towards specific music, video content, social media posts, images, stories, podcasts, documentaries, movies, and music depending on which country we stream from and our previous history.

Luckily, there are still a few skills that even AI can't touch:

  • Farming
  • Bodywork (massage, reiki, etc…)
  • Dance
  • Playing music
  • Art
  • Therapy
  • Working with plants and animals
  • Philosophy
  • Astrology

---

Hard skills were the thing to have and master over the last few centuries. They provided job security, careers, and a way to make money. However, now, AI has changed the game completely.

Now, maybe more so than ever before, learning and developing soft skills are of utmost importance.

The definition of a soft skill according to the Oxford dictionary:

"Personal attributes that enable someone to interact effectively and harmoniously with other people."

The exciting opportunity that AI presents

With AI replacing much of the work that we do, a question arises that's enchanted the hearts and minds of human beings since the beginning of time: What do I want?

And when there's a blank canvas to paint on, a fresh page to write on, and a new story to create, how we paint, write, and create our masterpiece is up to us.

The question "What do I want" touches into something deep and raw. It strips away the BS and asks us to be honest, vulnerable, real. There's no space to think about what we're afraid of, what holds us back, or why we can't afford it because it's not asking us to think about those things. It's much bigger than that. It transcends that 'noise'.

It simply asks our heart what do you want?

It simply asks our soul how do you wish to express yourself?

And then it tentatively turns to our mind to see how it can join the dots.

This is the exciting dialogue AI is presenting.

Masculine and feminine

This way of thinking (or feeling) turns humanity back towards a more feminine way of moving through the world. Maybe even towards a matriarchy again? Who knows.

So, it's kind of beautiful that over 10,000 years of masculine behaviour and dominance have culminated in us creating something that makes us redundant. AI is out-playing, out-smarting, out-thinking, and out-maneuvering men and automating masculine tasks, jobs, and characteristics much better than we ever can

How ironic!

So, by default, we are having to turn back towards the feminine to seek refuge in learning how to communicate, relate, and share with one another again.

I'm telling you: Soft skills are the new future!

Closing thoughts

So, now I ask you - what do you want?

However, don't answer right away. Let it percolate in your heart and mind for a while. Allow it to find a tender spot where your innermost truth can be heard. And then be brave enough to move your life from this new centre point.

Another great gift AI is presenting is the gift of time: Time to think, question, contemplate.

Time to connect, listen, and share.

The only thing to fear is holding onto the past.
