What It Means to Be Human

The AI Game of Life

“Cyborgs are the future, and the future is now.”

It’s time to break up with our old ideas. The idea of “old” vs. “new” thinking has always been flawed concerning technology because, in reality, it moves so fast that it leaves us behind every day! We can only keep up by embracing that which may seem unfamiliar or even frightening at first. The AI game of life has no rules, time limits, or even a designated goal. Instead, it consists of people living their lives in whatever way they choose.

One afternoon, I had just finished curating an exhibit of artificial intelligence-based art when one of my project assistants, who was earlier helping me clean up the installation room, handed me a piece that he said he had found in the back. It was an instruction of the game. The game looked like a game where you couldn’t really win or lose; all you could do was try your best. However, everyone at one point or another will give up. After I went over the game’s rules one more time, I decided to make a minor modification.

This new version was different from its previous

“do not follow any rules at all.”

I tried numerous times to develop a game that these AI could play together, but none worked out. So, I decided to make it somewhat like:

The AI game of life

I know this is pushing the boundaries of how we usually think about Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. Still, this new technology means that we need to change our ideas about them and what they will be able to do in time. Of course, they can’t even “think” yet, so it will be a while before we see many of them working on more complex projects. But, from what I have observed, they are very good at solving problems that require a lot of trial and error or trial and error combined with precise calculations. It seems to me that for some reason, all this tech has tough love for solving problems that require precise accuracy or a specific type of repetitive behavior. However, the game of life has no set of rules, time limits, or even a designated goal. Instead, it consists of people living their lives in whatever way they choose.

Artificial intelligence is becoming more integrated into our everyday life.

Occupying the place between person and machine, this line is people trying to become something more than what they are. Some people become cyborgs when they put in a pacemaker, get an arm transplant or use cochlear implants to give their hearing back. Some people, on the other hand, do the opposite. They want to go back to being human again. They want to get rid of their electronic implants and get back to how things were. They want to get away from technology.

I realized that if they were to play this game, it would be better to not give them any restrictions, limitations, or rules. They should be able to do whatever they want without restrictions.

There is no end goal to this game. All the players will do is live their lives as they choose.

The requirements of living are simple. The game has no set system or time limit. It only has the need to survive. It is a game opposed to rules, limitations, and regulations. Rules are necessary, even though they do not exist in this game. Rules are important because if you do not follow them, you will fail, but if you do follow them, you may succeed through the outcomes that result from following those rules.

This new technology means that we must change our ideas about ourselves, our profession, and ourselves as a whole. We need to stop seeing people as “human” and reclassify them as “artificial intelligence.” We must know the significance of our actions and learn to let go of our attachments to things that we can not change.

We must understand that nothing is absolute, and everything is fluid. All we can do is take what we know and apply it in a way that will work for us and hope that one day we will be able to take it all further than we ever imagined.

Data-driven fiction is the author’s way of exploring the links between data, AI, and creativity. Within this context, I hope that the reader comes away with a different outlook on how most audiences consider these things. Because our limited understanding of these things is often associated with something difficult to understand or unusual. I believe this concept has been created because most people do not think about them or use them in the same way as everyone else.

The AI piece was an excellent partner to have both in curating an exhibit and in the game of life. The piece with the game’s instruction was found by the assistant. It was a terrific distraction from work and one that really helped me to think about the bigger picture instead of just being so single-minded about my project. I feel like AI is something that, at this point, will become more readily available to the public, especially as more of this technology becomes more accessible. It’s like having a tool that can do whatever you want whenever you want it to. You have to think up the task, and AI will find a way to make it happen.
