Smart glasses have come onto the market, but they have not yet managed to cause a storm in the markets like the smartphones did when they were newly launched. That is chiefly because smart glasses represent a technology that is still in its development stages and has not quite matured yet. But with the launch of VR games, people are getting used to wearing VR headsets a bit more, and with time smart-glasses will become a common accessory to carry like a smartphone, although that is still a faraway possibility because the perfect smart glass with that instant appeal to users has not been invented yet. But after surveying the market I found some really attractive and cool features in smart sunglasses of various brands. And if we were to combine those features, I am sure that we would end up with the perfect smart glasses that would have the winning combination of user-friendliness and style. A smart glass that can replace your smartwatch if you feel like wearing a different fashion accessory or maybe even your smartphone. So here are some top features that a smart glass should include to make it worth the money and pack a punch

Open-Ear Listening is The Way To Go

One common feature that was offered by a particular smartglasses manufacturer that I tried was open-ear audio. With this feature, I could easily listen to music without stuffing my ears with earphones. In many smart-glasses brands, the speakers were located in glass’s frames near the temple. In this way, I could listen to music without it being audible to people sitting beside me. Without any wires to get in the way or the danger of earphones falling off, listening to music or my favorite podcast was a carefree and enjoyable experience. Doing intense gym exercises, running, or biking without worrying About earphones falling off certainly felt quite liberating. As a result open ear audio is definitely a must-have feature for the perfect smart-glasses

The next feature that definitely makes it on my bucket list for the ideal smart glasses is Smart Assistant. Gadgets should make your life easier, and the ideal smart-glasses should give their wearer hassle-free help in changing a song, making a call, or connecting to your smartwatch or smartphone simply by using his voice. All the smart-glasses brands that I had the opportunity to try offered a smart assistant which could be activated by my voice. Placing a call through my smartphone by simply speaking to my glasses was a delight that was truly mind-blowing. My only concern was the privacy issue that comes with voice processing since most brands store your voice commands on cloud software which carries a risk of hacking.

Smartphone-free Usage

For smart glasses to be truly useful, they should ideally function independently of your phone. Although this presents a significant challenge as it impacts the device's storage and battery life, it is necessary. If a cellular Apple Watch can operate as an independent device, then it stands to reason that smart glasses with an integrated cellular modem could do the same. This way, it would be possible to stream Spotify music, and you would need to carry your smartphone to pair up with smart glasses every time you decide to use them. A smartwatch can serve as an inspiration for smart-glasses features, and if a smartwatch can function on a data package, then my idea of the perfect smart-glasses should include this convenience of using smart-glasses without any device weighing down my pocket.

Optional Cameras to Give Freedom of Choice to Customer

Many brands also offer cameras, which is impressive, but in my view, this is not something that is essential. That said, I acknowledge that this feature could be helpful, but it should be a choice rather than a mandatory feature. Ultimately, the fundamental aspects of smart glasses, such as the audio experience and intelligence, should remain the primary functionality. So a smart-glasses brand should offer a lineup of smart-glasses models with one camera-free version and another with the camera to give a choice to a customer rather than forcing everyone to go with the camera version without the option of any alternative.

Certainly, the most significant hurdle to an Apple Watch replacing a phone, particularly a cellular version, is its lack of a camera. Hence, smart glasses with built-in cameras may not be as unappealing as you might assume. It's important to recognize that these days, it's considered normal to document everything with a phone camera, and it's almost expected that anyone, anywhere, could record you at any time. But personally, I would still find it a bit creepy if I knew someone was taking my pictures without my consent. Therefore, if the goal is for smart glasses to function independently of phones, a camera could make them more attractive than a smartwatch.

Style

Apart from clothing and jewelry, eyeglasses are perhaps one of the most personal accessories one can wear. Individuals use their glasses to showcase their distinctive fashion sense, and the addition of speakers and charging ports in smart eyewear shouldn't change that. The most desirable smart glasses should provide a wide range of styles, from diverse frame shapes to material finishes, similar to the vast band and case options available for the Apple Watch, demonstrating that it's possible.

Admittedly, it wouldn't be a straightforward task to design stylish glasses that also integrate electronic components. In one particular smart glasses model, all the technology is situated in the temples, while the front frames are replaceable. This design ensures that the housing for internal components such as the speakers, microphones, and others remain consistent, while the appearance can be altered significantly by snapping on a new front frame.

In all likelihood, smart glasses could be available in as many variations as laptops, providing options for both fully AR-enabled models and simpler smart glasses like those that I assessed. It's evident that the technology industry is dedicated to developing smart glasses with VR specs for entertainment and professional applications. If Meta is any indication, the industry is willing to continue incurring losses to achieve this objective.
