Top 10 Actors Who Should Be In 'Star Wars'

Everyone has their favorite actors whom they would love to see in whatever franchises they love. There are so many to choose from, so it is often an interesting thought exercise. For this article, I am going to list off ten actors whom I think should be in Star Wars.

10. Benedict Cumberbatch

All right, let's get this one out of the way. Sherlock and Doctor Strange actor Benedict Cumberbatch would be fun to see in Star Wars, but not as Grand Admiral Thrawn. Lars Mikkelsen defined the voice of that character in Star Wars Rebels, so any live-action interation of that role belongs to Mikkelsen, in my opinion. And anyway, Cumberbatch said months ago that he would not want to sit for hours and have blue makeup applied to him. So if he is ever cast in Star Wars, it probably would not be as an alien character that would require makeup. I could see him as some sort of high-ranking officer of an organization, even if it's just a minor role.

9. Jodie Whittaker

When The High Republic was launching with the novel Light of the Jedi, fans noted similarities between the appearances of Jedi Avar Kriss and Doctor Who's Jodie Whittaker. Even if she never plays this particular character, it would be great to see Whittaker wielding a lightsaber instead of a sonic screwdriver in a future project. Her tenure as the Thirteenth Doctor ends sometime next year (which is rather unfortunate, in my opinion, as I have been enjoying her tenure), so maybe she will be a bit more free if she ever gets a call for Lucasfilm.

8. Paul McGann

Speaking of Doctor Who, Paul McGann has played the Eighth Doctor not just in a TV movie and a minisode, but also in many audio dramas across the last couple of decades. He has so much range. He can be very witty and reassuring, or he can be very dramatic and angry. He has played The Doctor in so many different scenarios that call for him to react in different ways, so you could really have him on the light side or the dark side in a future Star Wars project. Imagine Paul McGann wielding a red-bladed lightsaber. What an image!

7. Nick Frost

We've had Simon Pegg voice Dengar in The Clone Wars and play Unkar Plutt in The Force Awakens. So why not have his buddy Nick Frost in a role, even if it were just a cameo appearance? Like Pegg, Frost is also a fan of the franchise. He could play another junk dealer or scavenger, or perhaps a pilot of any ship of his choice, depending on what faction would be in play. I see him as kind of a funny side character who would know the heroes. Maybe he could even play a droid, providing some good comic relief.

6. Sonequa Martin-Green

I know I am crossing the streams a bit here, but I've loved what I've seen of Sonequa Martin-Green in The Walking Dead and Star Trek: Discovery. She can convey sadness in both a subdued way and a very real outpouring manner. She can make a character seem very sincere and encouraging to her peers. She can deliver some very inspiring dialogue. I guess it's obvious that I'd prefer to see her as a hero character, but she plays it so well.

5. Michelle Yeoh

Michelle Yeoh has played a couple different versions of her Star Trek: Discovery character Philippa Georgiou, and one of those versions is up to no good and delivers dialogue deliciously. The writers really gave her some of the best lines, and Yeoh has worked well with what she has been given. I would love to see her be professional and/or provide snarky remarks as a Star Wars character, whether it be a Force user or even a non-Force user.

4. Doug Jones

Doug Jones is a creature actor known for putting on various masks and makeup for roles in Hellboy, Pan's Labyrinth, The Shape of Water, and Star Trek: Discovery. He could play a memorable alien character in a live-action Star Wars project, whether it be a familiar type of alien or a new one altogether. He is very versatile when it comes to physical movements, so he would get the job done.

3. Margot Robbie

Margot Robbie just is Harley Quinn. She has shown how talented she is at playing a wild card. But she has also had more subdued roles, such as the one she played in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Robbie has a lot of range, so there is a variety of types of characters she can play. A calm Jedi? A ruthless bounty hunter? An opportunist pirate? A witty soldier? A chaotic dark sider? There are so many possibilities.

2. Jeffrey Dean Morgan

Whenever I have seen him play Negan on The Walking Dead, Jeffrey Dean Morgan has impressed me with how he feels larger than life in his dialogue. He was given most of the best lines in that series. Even if he has to dial back his language a little bit for Star Wars, I think his acting chops are impressive enough to warrant a role for him, whether it be as a hero, a villain, or something in between. Maybe a smuggler or a pirate? I'm sure Lucasfilm can figure it out.

1. Terry Crews

This might feel out of left field, but I remember when Terry Crews gave a talk at my school a few years ago, and he wanting to see the original Star Wars as a kid, and how watching it made him realize that he wanted to work in the entertainment world. I think it would be really fun to see him in the galaxy far, far away. He can play a character who is physically tough, but also bring a lot of comedy gold, as we have seen in the hit sitcom Brooklyn Nine-Nine, which is airing its final season. He could add great stuff to the galaxy far, far away.
