These Two Characters Will Have The Rematch Of The Century In 'Kenobi'

And We Can't Wait To See It!

The duel of the fates between Darth Maul and Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi is epic, no doubt. However, it pales in comparison to the duel between Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader and Kenobi at the end of Revenge of the Sith. The encounter on Mustafar is easily the best lightsaber battle of the entire saga. Since last December, we know that the Jedi Master and his fallen student will meet again in something that Kathleen Kennedy called “the rematch of the century”.

Even though the Obi-Wan Kenobi series has completed shooting a few weeks ago, its plot is still very much a mystery. A recent report sheds some light on how the Jedi in exile will appear back on the Sith Lord’s radar as well as how a duel between the former brothers may go down. This also raises the possibility of there being more than one duel between the two in the upcoming series.

According to the report, Kenobi will be sent on a mission “for the cause” at the beginning of the series, forcing him to leave Tatooine and his watch over young Luke. The “cause” in this case probably has something to do with the growing rebellion against the Empire. The report does not give an indication on who sends Kenobi on his mission. One can assume that it may be Bail Organa who contacts his old Clone Wars ally to find and to rescue an important person.

This mission will bring Kenobi in contact with a female Inquisitor, played by Moses Ingram (Queen’s Gambit). Star Wars Rebels as well as Marvel’s Darth Vader comics and Fallen Order video game have shown that the role of the Inquisitors is to capture Jedi on the run after Order 66 as well as to find Force-sensitive children for the Empire. Kenobi may very well be tasked with rescuing none other than a very young Princess Leia. Back in July there has been a rumor that Vivien Lyra Blair (Bird Box) had been cast as a young Leia and that she will be the trigger for the whole series. This lines up with the leaked information.

In defeating the Inquisitor and rescuing this person, Kenobi will attract the attention of Darth Vader. The report states that the series will show the Dark Lord sitting on the throne in his castle on Mustafar when he learns about of Kenobi’s appearance. Then, Vader will take his TIE Advanced in search for his old master. They will meet on a sandy and rocky terrain, which could be Tatooine, Geonosis, or even Jedah. Like The Mandalorian, the Obi-Wan Kenobi series seems to have a fondness for desert environments.

While Kenobi is said to wear more or less the same outfit as he did in Revenge of the Sith, albeit more worn and dirty, Vader’s suit appears to be identical to the one he has on in Rogue One, and a bit different from the one at the end of Revenge of the Sith. This makes sense, as the current Darth Vader comic series has shown the Dark Lord repairing and even partly rebuilding his suit and armor several times after it has been damaged in battle.

The beginning of the duel is described as the two opponents walking towards each other. Before Vader can engage his enemy, Kenobi Force pushes him into something that will become a stone or rock wall in post-production. Vader then slowly gets up, ready to take his revenge on Kenobi.

This scene and the battle that ensue are said to have been shot back in August 2021 for a period of two weeks. Hayden Christensen does not seem to have been involved in the filming of this duel. However, that does not mean the Canadian actor will not be getting some action in the black suit. Even in the filming of the original trilogy, it was not always Dave Prowse in the black suit. Olympic fencer and fight choreographer Bob Anderson would stand in as the Dark Lord in some of the fighting scenes.

Christensen has recently been spotted several times wearing a cap with the logo of the Kenobi stunt team on it, so he seems quite proud to return to the franchise. Since Kennedy has mentioned that McGregor and Christensen will clash their lightsabers again, it seems as if we will be seeing more than one duel between the Jedi Master and his former apprentice in the series

There is currently no official release date for Obi-Wan Kenobi. The series is said to premiere some time in 2022. However, rumors have surface that it may debut in May 2022, or even on Star Wars Day on May 4, 2022.
