The mystery of the butterfly rings

One day Sam opened his front door to discover a plane box sitting at the door with no writing on it other than the words, “For Sam.” Puzzled and intrigued, Sam immediately took the box inside to open it.

When he opened it, the only contents of the box, was a little black book. Sam takes the book out of the box and opens it to the first page where it reads, “Follow these instructions Sam, and one of the butterfly rings will be yours.” This immediately brought two questions to Sam's mind. First, why is this book seemingly written specifically to him, and secondly, what are butterfly rings?”

Sam turns the page. The next page reads, “Sam, take care to follow all of these instructions and do not spend the money at the back of this book.” Sam thinks, “money,” and immediately turns to the back of the book. Low and behold, Sam finds $20,000 in hundred dollar bills, tucked away in the back of the book. Sam yells out loud, “are you kidding me?” even though there's no one there to hear him.

Then he remembers that he read, “do not spend the money,” so he goes back to the book to continue reading. He turns back to the second page to finish where he left off, where the next line in the book read, “you will need this money to acquire the butterfly ring!” Sam thinks to himself, what the heck is a butterfly ring? And then he keeps reading. “you're probably asking yourself what is a butterfly ring? Sam says out loud, “holy crap, that's exactly what I was just thinking. Ha ha ah. Okay, so what's the answer? Guess I gotta keep reading.”

the answer is quite complicated, however, the rings have been around for thousands of years and have primarily been held and passed down to those in a royal bloodline. The royal gene that is necessary to control the rings remains dormant in most descendants. However, you Sam, have the active gene to control the butterfly rings.

The rings themselves are made of precious and rare materials and gems. However, the value of the rings is not in their material but rather in what they can do. What they can do is three different things.

First, the rings are keys that unlock and open certain doors that can only be opened with a butterfly ring. Second, each ring has a different ability that will give the wearer of the ring, special insight into their surroundings, which can best be described as knowledge. Third, the outer shell of the ring opens in a way that looks like wings and these wings can connect to the wings of other butterfly rings, worn on other fingers.

The combination of connected butterfly rings gives the wearer of those rings more knowledge and opens up more doorways. Be aware, everyone who possesses a butterfly ring will be able to sense when another butterfly ring is nearby. This can be both good and bad. Good for locating another lost ring and good for contacting future allies, but can be very bad if someone has a ring and wants to take yours from you to use for evil purposes. You will need to learn how to protect yourself.

The ring will be able to assist you. Your ring is the ring of truth! While you are wearing the ring, you will always be able to know when someone is telling the truth. Also a few other things as well.

Tomorrow morning will be your chance to get started. At exactly 3:33 AM use the entire $20,000 to start a fire and burn this book! If you do not burn all of the money and this book at 3:33 AM tomorrow, you will not be able to receive your first butterfly ring. However, follow these instructions and the ring will appear in the ashes. Good luck.

Sam starts to pace back-and-forth across the room and begins to talk to himself but speaking out loud. “This must be some kind of a joke. Someone's tricking me. This is some crazy stuff. But the money looks real. So, maybe this crazy story is real? Also, I have to burn the money to find out? Okay Sam, think.”

Sam then decides to take some of the money down to his local bank to find out for sure if the money is real. The bank verified that the money was 100% real! So Sam returns home and debates the rest of the whole day if he was going to go through with burning the money and the book at 3:33 the next morning. At 3 o'clock in the morning, Sam decides, “okay, I'm going to take a leap of faith here and I'm going to do it.”

Sam then prepares a little fire pit in the back yard and collects up the $20,000 to use as kindling and places the book on top and at 3:33 AM he lights it all on fire!

As the fire burns, it lights up with an incredible blue flame for two or three minutes before changing to a bright green flame and then suddenly going out. Sam grabs a stick and starts to move around the ashes and sure enough, there's a large golden ring with fancy and strange engravings and decorated with precious jewels and gems, sitting there in the ashes.

Sam uses a stick to pull the ring out of the ashes and puts it on the ground. He slowly reaches out to touch the ring and notices it's not hot at all. Sam picks up the ring and starts to study it. Sam starts to wonder, “how does this ring open up like a butterfly? What exactly are these doors that it is supposed to open? Also, it's supposed to somehow tell me the truth? Or if someone else is telling me the truth? I can see how that would be useful.”

Sam then notices in the fire pit that there appears to be writing. He blows the loose ashes away and reveals that there is indeed writing left in the bottom of the fire pit. Upon a closer inspection, it appears to be names. The names were, Alexandria Petrov, Jack Galanis, Maya Moreno, and Lee Wong.

Sam says out loud, “maybe the first thing I should do is try to find this person that is listed first. Who is Alexandria?” The ring in Sam's hand then began to glow. Sam looks closer at the ring and says, “I'm going to take that to mean that that's correct. Wait a minute, am I talking to an inanimate object?”

Sam starts to inspect the ring closer. Noticing the top of the ring had the body of a butterfly. Sam says the first name on the list, “Alexandria Petrov.” The jewel that represented the head of the butterfly then turned and faced to the east. When Sam moved his orientation towards the east, he and the ring moved, but the head of the butterfly stayed constantly facing the same direction. Sam says, “Okay ring, clearly you're telling me the direction of where Alexandria is.”

Sam quietly says to himself, “I have to admit, I'm very nervous but also excited about putting this ring on.

Sam raises his eyebrows and tilts his head and thinks out loud, “let”s test this and try saying a different name on the list. Let's go with the last name this time, Lee Wong.” immediately the head of the butterfly turns and faces southwest. “Okay, that verifies it. This is a compass of some sort that leads me to the person. I wonder if it can lead to places as well as people.”

Sam decides he needs a drink of water before he makes himself brave enough to put the ring on. However, while grabbing a bottle of water some of the water spills into the fire pit and it changed the writing. So Sam pours more of the water in the fire pit and it reveals different names.

Sam then looks up to the night sky and says out loud, “my life is about to become very interesting.”
