The definition of insanity is the repetition of doing something over and over again. It’s considered a coincidence when a single train of thought, action, or theme pops up instantaneously. Déjà vu in society today is commonly known as “just a coincidence”. It’s an occurring phenomenon in which individuals believe they have experienced a certain experience once or twice before in the past. This leads to the main question: where does the past, present, and future go when their paths are thus determined, if they exist at all? Only one idea has been created and circulated throughout the course of history. The name of this theory is fairly new and had been only coined in the late 19th century. It is called the Akashic Record Theory. The Akashic Record Theory’s existence is true, due to the beliefs and opinions of individual Theosophists, its connection across religions, as well as its anecdotal accounts across time itself.

The word “Akasha” is the Sanskrit word for “Sky” or “Aether”, the term mainly used in the beliefs of Indian cosmology. The full definition of the Akashic Record Theory is to be known as “a compendium of thoughts, events and emotions encoded on the astral plane- conceived and believed by Theosophists”. Predestination could be used as a like term, since predestination is “the doctrine that all events have been willed by God, usually with reference to the eventual fate of the individual soul.” Both terms are used in the Theosophical belief. Theosophy is a number of philosophies maintaining that a knowledge of God may be achieved through spiritual ecstasy, direct intuition, or special individual relations. The difference between these two definitions are their relations. Predestination is the event that is to be recorded in the Akashic Record Library which is located in the astral plane of the universe.

So, where exactly is the Akashic Record if it does exist? If the word “Akasha” is known for “Sky”, then must we look to the stars? But “Akasha” is also a word for “Aether”. So why not use both terms? Aether was a term mainly used in the era of the ancients in Greece as well as in the medieval times where individuals believed in alchemy. Aether is also known as ether, the magical potions used in videogames, and quintessence. A mysterious fifth element, besides the four elements of earth, fire, air, and water. This material is said to fill the entire areas of the universe where the terrestrial elements cannot exist. Above our Earth where the stars and zodiac cosmology reside as well as how the Pokémon videogame came up with the element of psychic. In this invisible space, the Akashic Record records the past, present, and future here. However, although the Akashic Record is said to exist among the stars, the unexplainable species created by man are also said to exist in this same astral plane, in the shared space of our own terrestrial world.

Where do we exactly go when we die? Do we go to Heaven or Hell? Where do we reside before we enter our predestined places- even before purgatory? The Astral Plane in definition, is a plane of existence much similar to ours but in which case all of the classic medieval, oriental and esoteric philosophies, and mysteries of religions take their place. It is the same plane in which the Akashic Record resides in the stars and when crossed by our individual souls, where the beings we cannot see live. These invisible races include angels, demons, djinns (genies), and fairies. All immaterial beings in which we humans believe to have perceived to be real next to unicorns, mermaids, and ghosts. Another term for this astral plane, all in the sphere of our human thought or imagination is known as the Noosphere. Our next question comes into play. Who came up with these definitions, let alone the idea of this Akashic Record Theory?

The Akashic Record Theory’s name wasn’t coined until the 19th century by the recommendation of Alfred Percy Sinnett, an author of Esoteric Buddhism (1884). The idea of the name came to the mind of Helena Petrovna Blavatsky during her world travels between 1849 and 1869. However, the first Theosophists who ever created the foundational belief of the Akashic Record Theory’s realm (the astral plane) were none other than the individuals of the first recorded philosopher, Plato, and his pupil Aristotle. Although Homer first introduced the term Aether in his Iliad and the Odyssey, in his time, Aether was also the name a deity and of “Atheopians” where the people were “burnt black in visage”.

Plato adapted the four classical elements of fire, earth, air, and water; however, stated in Timaeus that "there is the most translucent kind which is called by the name of aether”. Aristotle agreed with his mentor, but suggested in his On the Heavens book that Aether was to truly be the first element ever before fire to have existed- being of the substance in creating the stars, celestial beings, and the Akashic Record. Although these philosophers were the first recorded Theosophists as well as the founding fathers of Aether, the most famous Theosophist of our time and founding mother of the Akashic Record Theory is Helena Petrovna Blavatsky.

An occultist, medium, and author, Helena became the co-founder of the Theosophical Society in 1875. Helena was fascinated with the art of magic and claimed to have been in contact with the spiritual world of ghosts herself. Escaping the life of her marriage, she adventured to Tibet where she enhanced her skills in traveling through the astral plane. Blavatsky departed Tibet with a mission to prove to the world that the theory of the Akashic Record Theory truly did exist along with the truth that Spiritism was in fact, real. Defending against false informational accusations created by scientists. She characterized the Akashic Record Theory as a “sort of life force”, referring it to “indestructible tablets of astral light, which records both the actions and thoughts of humans in the past, present, and future.” Herself and her other partners, Colonel Henry Steel Olcott and William Quan Judge together formed the Theosophical Society in New York City, November 17 in year 1875.

Colonel Henry Steel Olcott was an American military officer, a journalist, a lawyer, and the first President of the Theosophical Society. Inspired by the religious teachings of Buddha, Olcott wished to spread Buddhism worldwide through the Society. In order to strengthen his arguments and beliefs of the Akasha, Olcott combined both the scientific and religious aspects of Buddhism, being able to explain and attempt to show supernatural phenomena of auras, hypnosis, and Buddha “miracles”. Through their research, Olcott and Blavatsky came to a conclusion that Buddhism had best embodied all of the terrestrial elements that they found significant in all religions.

William Quan Judge was a mystic, an esotericist, and an occultist. As a devotional follower of the Theosophist Society, Judge wrote numerous theosophical articles in support of Blavatsky’s beliefs in the Akasha. Although not generally involved in the irregularly held meetings, Judge eventually was consumed in his work of being a lawyer. More evidence of the Akashic Record Theory is hidden within not only of the Theosophical teachings, but throughout more of the worldly religions we practice today.

In Christianity as well as Judaism, the existence of the Akashic Record Theory clearly exists, but is perhaps referred to in a different name. The angel, Metatron, was once a great prophet of the Jews whom went by the human name, Enoch. "Enoch ascended into heaven through the Word of God, and God called him Metatron, the great scribe." (Genesis 5:24) The Archangel Metatron is said to keep all of the official records of Heaven, being granted permission by God to create all the merits of Israel. Metatron is also appointed to write down every thought, and action of all human beings in their lives into the Book of Life. Another name is evidently the Akashic Records where both names are a reference to a celestial record of all that has happened in the past, is happening now in the present, and the things that will happen in the future. Medium, author, and instructor Rose Vanden Eynden who is passionate toward her religious beliefs created a book called Metatron: Invoking the Angel of God’s Presence. “One of Metatron’s most prominent roles is as the Angel of the Akashic Records. These records are the Universe’s energetic repository of all actions, thoughts, and information from the beginning of time. They are accessible to all of us as spiritual beings inhabiting a physical body, and we can work with Metatron to help us access this information to better ourselves in our current life circumstances.” (How to Recognize Archangel Metatron)

In the religion of Hinduism, a deity emerges with a specific role much like Metatron’s. A deva known as Chitragupta, appointed by the Hindu God of Death Yama, holds the task of recording every known action of a human’s life- given permission to send each individual to either Heaven or Hell. The Akashic Records is fairly known in the Hindu religion as this is the place where Chitragupta writes off the human accounts. Once the actions are written, it is said that Yama- like God, would review the Akashic Records/Book of Life in order to “judge both the living and the dead”.

Edgar Cayce was the most known and prominent mystic whom the many mysteries related to the Akashic Record Theory could have actually been revealed. His mystical information can be greatly used in explaining the relations to the Buddhist religion and the Akashic Records. Unlike the simplistic ideas of Christianity and Hinduism, Buddhism contains the “Akasha”, referring to the luminous beings known as the lower celestial sphere devas. The “Records” are what the Akasha uses in the way of interpreting human actions and using karma. Karma works as an impersonal mental process, where the former as well as the present intentions of the human’s actions ripen, bringing forth karma’s results as an expedient opportunity when it is allowed. Karma is said to be carried around in a human’s center, or aura, and mind or more in a holographical setting than on any single geographic location. The Akasha are devas known to humans as guardians, watchers, aides, messengers, protectors, and hearers who could be communicated through the exercises of “jhana”. Otherwise the known practice of meditation, mystical experiences, or altered states of near-death experiences, comas, etc. Ascetics and shamans would be like individuals to that of mediums. Also, in many sutras, Buddha tells of the Akashic Theory not through a theory at all, but of actual experience through a human’s way of life using the terms of devas and karma. As true as that may be, and being that Buddhism is not just a religion but a way of life, it can be just as the same said with the Jedi force.

The Force used by many Jedi’s in the Star Wars universe is a metaphysically binding and ubiquitous powerful energy. The Force is mainly described as “an energy field created by all living things that surrounds and penetrates living beings and binds the galaxy together”, told by character Obi-Wan Kenobi. When asked about the phrase “May the force be with you”, George Lucas, the creator of Star Wars replied with "Similar phrases have been used extensively by many different people for the last 13,000 years to describe the 'life force,'" he says. The life force can be similar to that of karma, or the human’s aura, used and manipulated through the reading of the Akashic Record in order to do incredible feats. Such feats include the enhancing of natural, physical, and mental abilities, including strength as well as the powers of telekinesis, telepathy, levitation, deep hypnosis, enhanced empathy, reflexes, precognition, and enhanced speed. The Jedi were also able to influence and control the minds of others by making use of the Jedi mind trick. And since the Force is "an energy field created by all living things", a disturbance can be felt when there is death or suffering on a massive scale, affected by the untold Records of the Akasha.

The Akashic Record Theory has physical proof of its existence, which makes it more intriguing to that of finding Atlantis and Lemuria. However, all three of these things are connectively tied together and proves the Theory exists consequently. Both Atlantis and Lemuria were lost island continents that left no trace of ever existing.

Atlantis was first mentioned by Plato in his works of literatures, Timaeus and Critias. In the time of “Ancient Athens”, the rival power possessed an indestructible fleet of water vessels that rivaled Plato’s home continent. Falling out of “favor with the Gods”, Atlantis sinks into the deep depths of the ocean it once floats on. Going through such pains of even describing the culture of the lost continent Atlantis, Plato gives the exact location of empty space that Atlantis could possibly be fitted in our world today being “beyond the pillars of Hercules”. Such speculation could also observe the mysteries of the Thera eruption, Trojan War and Sea People invasions. As a consequence, Atlantis has become a byword reference for any and all supposed advanced prehistoric lost civilizations. Much more popular than Lemuria.

Lemuria was known as a lost land located between the Indian and Pacific Oceans. Helena Blavatsky, claimed a friend of hers showed her an Atlantean Book of Dyzan, which could also prove the point that Atlantis could have possibly existed. This could also conclude that Atlantis existed maybe nearly the same time Lemuria existed.

Perhaps there is proof on Atlantis, however, Lumeria is rather less than lucky. Rainer Kühne, a physicist, used satellite photography on southern Spain that suggested Atlantis was in the region of the southern Spanish coast, destroyed by a flood between 800 B.C. and 500 B.C. "These satellite photos show rectangular structures and concentric circles that match very well with Plato's description of the palaces and the city of Atlantis," said Kühne, whose research was reported in the journal Antiquity. (National Geographic News) Unfortunately, the modern theory on plate tectonics has disproven the fact that Lumeria ever existed. Sunken continents do exist. There is proof of Zealandia in the Pacific as well as Mauritia and the Kerguelen Plateau in the Indian Ocean. However, there is no known geological formation under the Indian or Pacific Oceans that corresponds to the continent Lemuria. Accounts of Lemuria differ in different references of literature, but all references share a common belief that a continent existed in ancient times like that of Atlantis and sank beneath the ocean as a result of a geological change, such as that of a pole shift.

Given the information of Theosophists, Religions, and information of lost continents, there is indeed a vast link of connections that proves the existence of to the Akashic Record Theory. However, it is only a Theory and cannot be proven although I have tried. The only conclusion that leads my point to be proven is the relative fact that not all accusations, opinions, and theories can be proven. The “Mind of God”, also known as the Akashic Theory is an invisible element that can’t be described. Only defined. Which indeed begs the next question of our society’s existence as a whole. If there is a God, or a higher being of such that carries the whole data of the world on Record, then why do we believe in something we cannot see? God mine as well be just another theory.
