'The Mandalorian' Season 3 Production Reportedly Postponed

The toll of the COVID-19 pandemic cannot be understated. As countless cases and deaths continue to be seen across the entire world, the entertainment industry has clearly been struggling to maintain its content output while taking the necessary precautions to prevent further infections. Unfortunately, with upcoming films such as The Batman and series such as Better Call Saul and Star Trek: Picard delaying their productions due to COVID-19 cases, it seems this pandemic is far from being over, especially with the recent outbreak of the deadly Omicron variant.

This brings us to the highly anticipated Season 3 of Star Wars: The Mandalorian. Filming for the season was reportedly set to resume following the holiday season. Since then, there has been a series of conflicting sources reporting on whether or not the series has resumed filming. According to one of these sources described by The Bespin Bulletin, filming for the show's third season had not been given a return date, and the cast and crew were currently on standby. This was reportedly done as a precaution rather than in response to any specific cast or crew member becoming compromised.

However, another report later contradicted this in an update of the same article. This source claims that filming for the season has indeed resumed, albeit amidst necessary safety measures in response to the new variant. This particular source has been described as being exceptionally reliable due to their previous reports on details of the latest episode of The Book of Boba Fett before its official release. But neither of these reports have been officially confirmed nor denied by Lucasfilm. So whether or not the series has definitively resumed filming is impossible to say at the moment.

The pandemic isn't the only factor affecting the production of The Mandalorian's third season. The firing of former lead actress Gina Carano and the current investigation into the assault allegations raised against actor Horatio Sanz last year has caused the show to lose two of its recurring cast members. This has likely led to rewrites if either actor were initially meant to return in the latest season. There have also been rumors surrounding Pedro Pascal and his involvement in HBO's upcoming The Last of Us TV adaptation. Some claim Pascal was filming his scenes for The Mandalorian Season 3 during gaps in his filming schedule for The Last of Us.

At the end of the day, people's safety comes first. There is no such thing as too much caution. Personally, I would rather wait another year for the next season of The Mandalorian than have the show's cast and crew be put at potential risk while filming amidst the outbreak of the Omicron variant. This goes for the rest of Lucasfilm's upcoming series as well. I understand, of course, that entertainment is essential while people are limited to their homes for such long periods. But the entertainment industry is still putting out content, and there is plenty to be found outside the galaxy far, far away. Star Wars as a franchise may be infinite, but its creators are still human. As such, we must remember their limitations and continue to take the necessary precautions for their safety and wellbeing.
