'It's not wise to upset a Wookie.'

One could say that the Wookiee is the most memorable race of the Star Wars saga due to their uniqueness and funny appearance. Whether you're a hardcore fan or a casual consumer of the Star Wars stories, chances are you have already seen a Wookiee. The most iconic has always been Chewbacca who made his first appearance in Star Wars IV: A New Hope in 1977.

However, more recently The Book of Boba Fett (2021) introduced us to another Wookiee, Black Krrsantan the bounty hunter. He remains mysterious due to being a new character in live-action, although he did appear for the first time in 2015 in the comics.

Volunteer Pit Fighter

Early in his life, after being disgraced by his people, the Wookiees, Krrsantan sought to improve his fighting skills through the teachings of the Xonti brothers who used slavers to acquire new fighters for their gladiatorial enterprise. For that purpose, when five Trandoshan slavers arrived at his home world, Kashyyyk, he didn't hesitate to kill four of them and let himself be captured by the remaining one.

The Xonti brothers put Krrsantan and four other fighters under harsh and deadly training where only the strongest could survive. After three of them fell to a painful death, in the end only the black Wookiee and a Dowutin survived the challenge. Moreover, to make the Wookiee warrior more valuable to buyers, the two brothers decided to enhance Krrsantan and equip his body with skeletal modifications by adding metal plating on his knuckles. Thanks to this drastic improvement, the warrior was more robust and won against the Dowutin with one single punch during a fight.

Sometime after, the Xonti brothers put on a show for buyers where Krrsantan and the Dowutin had to face fierce brawlers: a Trandoshan, a Kajain’sa'Nikto, and a Houk. The Wookiee fighter ended up only using his fists to fight and was by far the strongest gladiator in the arena.

Encounter With Obi-Wan Kenobi

Some while later, Krrsantan became a bounty hunter and was hired by Jabba the Hutt. The crime lord ordered him to hunt the unidentified man who disturbed his economy. The mysterious man was preventing Jabba's enforcers to collect the money from the water tax that was imposed on the moisture farmers of Tatooine. What they didn't know was that the troublemaker happened to be Obi-Wan Kenobi. So when Krrsantan followed the traces of the Jedi, it led him to the farm of Owen and Beru Lars, the uncle and aunt of Luke Skywalker. Krrsantan then took Owen hostage to a near canyon until Kenobi sensed the disturbance thanks to the Force and set the farmer free from the Wookiee's hold by making rocks hit the latter. The Wookiee responded with his electrified net gun which Kenobi immediately destroyed. So when Krrsantan attacked anew, Kenobi used his lightsaber to scar his opponent on the left eye which put an end to the fight. Shamed of his performance, Krrsantan didn't return to Jabba and fled Tatooine.

Back In Service, On A Mission For The Sith Lord

After the assault of the Death Star and its destruction, Vader went to Tatooine to negotiate on behalf of the Galactic Empire with Jabba. The Sith Lord asked for resources and requested two bounty hunters. He needed them to track down the man who destroyed the Death Star, Luke Skywalker, and additionally, he needed to find the agent who worked on a secret project for Emperor Palpatine. Thus, Jabba provided him with two of his best bounty hunters, Boba Fett and Black Krrsantan who had returned to his services after the failure in the Dune Sea of Tatooine. Black Krrsantan succeeded in finding the agent and discovered he was moving illegal alien parts to a secret base in the Outer Rim Territories. The bounty hunter captured him and took him to Vader who ordered his torture droid, Triple-Zero, to collect information from his new prisoner.

A Heist In Outer Space

Later on, after his contract with Vader expired, Krrsantan and other fellow bounty hunters were summoned to Son-tuul by Aphra the archaeologist. While waiting for Aphra in a cantina, Krrsantan willingly fought in the cantina's fighting pits and beat his opponents to death. After the fight, Aphra approached the hunters and revealed her plan which consisted of stealing a treasure that was in transit to the imperial vaults. The little group of bounty hunters accepted the mission and subsequently invaded the imperial ship by opening a passage on the hull of the ship with an asteroid. After the successful heist, Krrsantan went with Aphra to Anthan 13 where they met Lord Vader.

The Battle Of The Wookiees, An Encounter With Chewbacca

Sometime later, Black Krrsantan went to Vrogas Vas to help Darth Vader who was tracking down Luke Skywalker who was inside the Millennium Falcon with some of his rebellion mates: Han Solo, Princess Leia, and Chewbacca. Under Vader's orders, Krrsantan tried to capture Luke but was hindered by Chewbacca who attacked him ferociously. Ultimately, Krrsantan did not win the fight. After knocking down Chewbacca he was put down unconscious by CP-O3 who electrified him with the wires emerging from his broken metallic shoulders.

The Intricate Relationship With Boba Fett

When Krrsantan stopped collaborating with Aphra due to her lack of loyalty, the latter started working with two Hutt siblings, two twins who appeared to be Jabba's cousins. The brother and sister were living a life of debauchery in Nal Hutta until they traveled to Tatooine following Jabba's death. Serving as their brutal force, Krrsantan returned to Tatooine with the twins who wanted to claim the territory that belonged to their cousin. Little did they know, the empire of the late Hutt had already been claimed by Boba Fett who was no longer a bounty hunter.

On behalf of the Hutt twins, Black Krrsantan tried to assassinate Boba Fett by taking him by surprise while the former hunter was healing in his bacta tank. Even though Fett did not finish healing, the fight was almost even. Krrsantan fought ferociously with knuckles and teeth while Fett responded with his great force and ingenuity. In the action, Fett stabbed the former gladiator twice in the back with his gaderffii stick. Then Krrsantan grabbed Fett and squeezed him with all his strength until Fett's newly recruited cyborg gang arrived and attacked the perseverant Wookiee. The combat ended when Fennec Shand, Fett's master assassin, intervened and activated a trap door below Krrsantan which sent him to Jabba's former rancor pit.

After this failed attempt to assassinate Boba Fett, Black Krrsantan was offered to Fett by the twins after they realised their formed bounty hunter had failed. The Hutt twins apologised for sending Krrsantan to kill Fett, for in reality the territory had been promised to the Pyke Syndicate anyway and they did not want to deal with them. Krrsantan was then released by Fett who knew his intentions weren't personal. Later, they met in a cantina and Fett offered him a job. The latter needed his help to wage war against the Pyke Syndicate who wanted to take control of the Mos Espa, Fett's spaceport settlement.
