Temuera Morrison Is One Of The Busiest Actors In 'Star Wars': 'The Book of Boba Fett,' 'Obi-Wan Kenobi,' And 'The Mandalorian' Season 3

He's Everywhere!

When Temuera Morrison wrapped filming for his part as Clone Commander Cody (and a few other soldiers of the Grand Army of The Republic) on the set of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of The Sith, he probably thought that this was the last time the audience would see his face in moving pictures within the far away galaxy. Although George Lucas had Morrison re-dub Boba Fett’s lines (there aren’t that many) for the DVD release of the original trilogy in 2004, it seemed that the future of the notorious bounty hunter would lie with someone else: fellow New Zealand actor Daniel Logan, who had played the unaltered clone son of Jango Fett in Episode II – Attack of The Clones and would go on to voice Fett in five episodes of The Clone Wars.

However, Fett’s story arc in this series is somewhat incomplete, as the last time that we see him was toward the end of season 4. Young Boba did appear again in Dark Disciple, a novel by Christie Golden from 2015 that chronicles eight never-produced episodes of The Clone Wars. And there was at least one more story arc planned for him within the series, as there is an unfinished story reel showing Fett and fellow bounty hunter Cad Bane being attacked by Tusken Raiders. There is a (small) chance that this arc might get finished and reused in the upcoming The Bad Batch series, but it is doubtful.

Temuera Morrison, however, did provide his voice for Boba Fett in several video games (including both the original and the new Battlefront and Battlefront II) and of course has been busy making all kinds of movies both for the big and the small screen since 2005, but it would be 15 years before the audience would see his face again in chapter 9 of The Mandalorian. (Technically Boba Fett also appeared in chapter 5 of season 1, when he rescued the left-for-dead Fennec Shand, but he was played by another actor.)

Fett’s role in season 2 of The Mandalorian was ultimately much bigger than just a few cameos, and the big surprise came at the end of the post-credit scene of chapter 16, when we learned that Fett’s (and Shand’s) story would be continued in an all new series called The Book of Boba Fett, airing in December 2021. Shortly before Christmas of 2020, Jon Favreau appeared on Good Morning America making it clear that this new show was in fact not season 3 of The Mandalorian, but its own thing.

The Book of Boba Fett is currently in production, and after filming has wrapped, Morrison is likely to carry over his role into season 3 of The Mandalorian.

Beyond that, Kathleen Kennedy has teased an upcoming “story climax" that would bring together The Mandalorian, Rangers of The New Republic, (possibly) Ahsoka, and now maybe also The Book of Boba Fett, either in one (or more) cross-over episode(s), or in its own event movie. But this will definitely happen post 2021.

As Yoda would have said: There is another.

Rumor has it that Temuera Morrison will also have a role in the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series, which has either already begun shooting or will do so shortly. In terms of a reunion, it seems as if Morrison may take on another important personality from Kenobi’s past: That of former CC-2224, aka Cody, now not a clone trooper anymore, but a stormtrooper for the Galactic Empire (and surely with a new designation).

So, let’s quickly do the math here: When the clone wars started, Cody looked around 20 years of age, and when it ended, he looked 26 (due to the faster aging process of the clones). As Obi-Wan Kenobi takes place 10 years after the events of Revenge of The Sith, this would have Cody looking 46 physically. So, if he didn’t die in some battle bringing order to the galaxy, it is definitely plausible that Cody could still be alive to meet his former general.

What is less plausible is that Cody (who, in contrast to Captain Rex and a few other clones never got his inhibitor chip removed) and his fellow stormtroopers would be the big, bad Jedi hunters of the series. As we have seen in Star Wars Rebels as well as in books and comics, it is still very much Vader’s priority to hunt and to bring down all remaining Jedi, and he would not leave this task to a group of ordinary stormtroopers, especially when Kenobi is involved. It seems more likely, but this is pure speculation, that Cody would somehow come in contact with Kenobi, possibly try to stop or even to kill him, but then call Vader (Hayden Christensen), which would ultimately lead to the “rematch of the century” that Kennedy teased for the series.

Either way, it seems that this will be a busy year for Mr. Morrison, switching not only between bounty hunter- and stormtrooper armor, but also shooting-locations a lot, as The Book of Boba Fett and The Mandalorian are created in California, while Obi-Wan Kenobi will presumably be made in Boston and in England.
