Everyday JunglistPublished 2 years ago in FuturismStory of Varalakshmi Vratham
For the Sumangali Pengal or married women in many parts of South India, Varalakshmi Vratham is a festival they look forward to eagerly. After all, it is a ritual that had been recommended to Goddess Parvati by Lord Shiva himself. The story can be found in the Skanda Purana.
Rituals and Significance of Aadi Velli
The Holy Month of Aadi Aadi is the fourth month in the Tamil calendar, which corresponds to the period mid-July-mid-August. This month sees many religious festivals and observances like Aadi Pirappu, Aadi Amavasya, Aadi Perukku, Aadi Velli, Varalakshmi Pooja, Aadi Chevvai, Aadi Krithigai, etc. But though it is a holy month, Hindus do not perform any auspicious functions like marriages, Valaikappu, launching new ventures, etc., during this month.
God’s Version of Philanthropy
Human beings love to give to those that are less fortunate than they are. The reason we do not see more of this is that we find out that many of those to ask for help are not actually in need. One of our biggest concerns, when we try to be philanthropic, is that we will not find the right ministry or the right people to invest in. This sometimes causes those who have the most to give away to stop giving altogether. There is always an excuse about some terrible story of some unethical nonprofits that stole someone’s money. What is left out is that philanthropy is full of wonderful people who are dedicating their life, at a great personal sacrifice, to serving people and God. The largest majority of them are focused on trying to get their dollars to touch the most lives possible.

Buddhist prayer flags essentially carry our prayers via the wind to get them answered. The annual Saga Dawa Festival, which takes place in Tibet, is the most important religious festival in the country. The festival is celebrated to commemorate when Sakyamuni (Buddha) attained enlightenment and is typically observed by visiting temples, lighting lanterns, and practicing kindness and generosity. One of the most significant events of Saga Dawa is the replacement of the Tarboche Flagpole, a famous flagpole draped in Tibetan prayer flags that stands on the sacred mountain of Kailash.

The mummified head of Italy’s second Patron Saint looks out with sunken eye sockets and 800-year-old yellowed skin from within a reliquary in a chapel adorned with frescoes by Giovanni Antonio Bazzi, in the back of Siena’s cavernous Basilica Cateriniana San Domenico. Her head is separated by some 140 miles from her body, which rests in Rome – the Eternal City – in the Basilica of Santa Maria Sopra Minerva.
