Retired Marine Colonel Sebastian “Bastion” Hills stood on the tarmac in Dover Air Force Base in Dover, Delaware. The gleaming aircraft possessed wings that jutted out like fingers. The fuselage was an electronic cigarette and the nose looked normal. No drop nose here. It was unlike any previous supersonic jet or any conventional airplane ever. This day marked the first launch.

The surface seemed like talcum powder. Soft and giving yet somehow a bit firm. Two women prepared to walk out from the Martian module and experience the landscape firsthand. One woman, Commander Wanda Vicente, stepped forward onto the soil first. Another, Command Module Pilot Floral Cheever put her boots on the surface second, a few minutes later. They scooped up samples and made note of the temperature and surroundings. Then the two women heard the hatch to the Martian module shut and lock. Martian Module Pilot Bianca Coales ventured out of the vehicle.

Either it was funny to view life through the tiny lenses of their devices, or they knew something I didn't know as I entered through the train doors. I plop into the nearest seat.
Carriage Politics
The train creaked as it wound its way along the fresh tracks to Austin, Texas. Belching smoke from a metal chimney that burned to the touch, it had left Santa Fe this morning, under the haze of an exceedingly hot summer. The countryside around the railway looked bare and unpopulated, making the train look like a metal snake invading the otherwise undisturbed New World. Rolling hills melted into forests of struggling green as the train passed through land long since bereft of rainfall and wildlife. The sun was beginning to head towards a beautiful horizon, closing the late afternoon with its deep orange hue; the train trundled on.

I ran to the right, but still they were right behind me. It seemed that no matter how fast I ran I could not escape the dark forces that were chasing me. I decided it was time to face them since there was no chance to outrun them. I stopped my fast pace, turned around, and drew my two swords. They would be here at any moment. My heart was beating out of my chest, adrenaline was pouring through my body. Then all three came around the corner, they were dark creatures from the underworld. They held their dark swords and charged at me. I jumped over the first one and hit the second one on the top of the head with the back of my sword. The third one was too fast and slammed into me with his shield.

12 years ago “Mom where you taking me?!” My cries and pleads wasn’t being heard as my feet shuffled against the ground. The iron crib of mom’s hand cutting off circulation of blood in my arm, as we dash through the thick dense forest. The rain pelted my hair, the loose strands stuck to my face as we race across the woods. Clawing of tree branches cutting into my wet damp skin. Not knowing where she was taking me, but her eyes darted from tree to tree watching for something or someone. My legs turned into jello with no feeling left in them, my chest heavy with bricks as I tried to keep up with mom. Her legs are just way too long and nimble when she runs, mine is just stubby and short. The forest falls silent as all life was drained, all I could hear was the heavy harsh breathing of our breath.

Chapter 1 By: Jonathon L. Moreno “Roll call,” Bragnin said, “All you earthlings in a line-up formation, NOW!” I only remember pieces of my childhood, and I honestly don’t believe that some of these memories are even mine. I am shocked that this is life, yet it is! I get up every morning, get checked for weapons. A few minutes after weapons check, we get served our breakfast. We then sit, and while we wait, the part of us are trying to get a grip on the idea of working in the mines. For more than a few, this is their first time. Working the mines is a year round project. These aliens want the resources that this planet contains, resources like food, water, fruits, and the animals. They also want the dirt, precious metals, and rock.
