The evolution of humanity, from one advancement to the next.
China's Environmental Cooperation
Ask a Westerner what most surprised them about their trip to China. If they were not staying in a five-star hotel in a major city on the dime of a major Chinese corporation, most likely you are going to get your ear bent with stories of people spitting on the floor of, not just a public streetcar, but their own bloody offices!...and also of pollution that makes L.A.’s ring-around-the-collar skyline circa the smoggy eighties look like a Rocky Mountain High by contrast. The brute summary is that this place is colossally productive, and also colossally filthy—and unashamed of it.
Matthew WilderPublished 8 years ago in FuturismBeginnings of Artificial Intelligence
Artificial intelligence has been the goal of humankind since the dawn of the computer age. As each year passes, we depend on computers more and more. This over-dependence leads us to create an abundance of machines capable of computing. The only end goal in this scenario is the actual replacement of human intervention. Artificial intelligence is not just a simple notion of what we would like to have. It has become part of who are and our eventual progress into the next technological age.

Futurism StaffPublished 8 years ago in FuturismNotorious Cults
Cults are like car accidents: horrific events that people cant help but gawk at in shock. Cult members sacrifice their individuality for the perceived friendship, connections, identity, and meaning the groups offers. It is difficult to define the psychological profile of individuals in cults. There is a significant diversification in terms of age, career, education, ideology, and talents among cult members. Powerful dedication to ideology deludes members into believing they are revolutionaries, or devout followers of a new age religion. All too often, cults end in destruction, through mass suicide or violence. Terrifying, and fascinating, cults manipulated countless people and made headlines throughout the twentieth century. A look at these cults offers more insight into the type of groups that appealed to the varied individuals that would become members.
Futurism StaffPublished 9 years ago in FuturismBest Genetic Modification Movies
Genetic modification is the foundation of evolution. All species change and are altered because the planet is exposed to radiation. Radiation causes DNA to break down; the damage is repaired and is often followed by mutation. This mutation is what creates variety in individual species and the world as a whole. Genetic modification movies have reached across all sub-genres including comedy, horror, thriller, and mystery; but they will always belong under the heading of science fiction. Science is not at the same level that is portrayed in these films, giving them a somewhat magical element that viewers are more than ready to embrace. From Sharktopus to X-Men, here are our top genetic modification movies.

True Story. In May of 1968 an American nuclear submarine, the USS Scorpion, vanished in the calm waters of the Atlantic. Chaos ensued deep in the war rooms beneath the Pentagon. The greatest military minds could not with any degree of accuracy locate the vessel. It could be anywhere within a 20-mile radius and at great depth. Finding it was a monumental endeavor.
Frank WhitePublished 9 years ago in FuturismBecoming a Type 1 Civilization
One giant step for a man, one giant leap for humankind. Leaving my gender neutralization of the famous quote aside, the year was 1969 and people around the world were amazed (or in complete disbelief) when it was reported that a human being had set foot on the moon. 46 years ago this momentous event took place, and since that time we have not advanced a single step forward.
Finding Meaning Without Religion
Traditionally, people have had churches and religion as a support system for life's emergencies. No matter the enormity of the crisis, God and his local representative, one's priest or minister, would be there to serve as a reminder of "what a friend [one has] in Jesus." But people who have grown alienated from religious orthodoxy or even from religion itself, what do they have?
Joshua Samuel ZookPublished 9 years ago in FuturismFacebook Can Control Your Mind
Back when I was a smoker, there was a conversation that we smokers would have every few months. Every time they pushed us to a new and more remote shame-hole in the building and eventually outside altogether, every time the price for a pack would shoot up another half dollar, we would look at each other, light up resignedly, and say, “What are you gonna do, quit?”
David FurgesonPublished 10 years ago in FuturismMedicinal Mushroom Magic
Medicinal mushrooms produce medically important natural metabolites or can be induced to do so with biotechnology. There is a range of medical compounds that include antibiotics, cholesterol inhibitors, anti cancer drugs, psychotropic drugs, and a few fungicides. Though early discoveries focused on basic moulds which cause spoiling of food, later work would identify helpful compounds across many types of fungi. Naturalists have preached the benefits of medicinal mushrooms for decades. They know where to find the best fungi and understand the sound scientific benefits of the specific types of mushrooms they find.

The human body doesn't do upgrades. Take poor care of your machinery, and there's no reboot, no system overhaul, no virus software that can come to your aid. In terms of the basic sensory apparatus and what it offers, you're pretty much stuck with the equipment you're born with. At least, until now.
