A.I. ok?

There has been the usual scaremongering recently about the latest thing we are told to worry about, this time its A,I.

My dad has told all hus kids how dangerous it is without the slightest clue why. Apart from his newspaper saying beware there is very little else to go on for him. Its basically telling its readership that its dangerous while knowing a large part wont understand anything about it.

I did try and explain as its not sentient then don't worry to much. If it can think for itself , then maybe a little panic is ok. At present if the input is safe, the output will be. If there person wanting to use it decides to use it for evil deeds then maybe worry a little more.

At present A.I. is used throughout most peoples lives, often without them knowing. Its used to help you shop, by suggesting relevant items to you for example. It helps chatbots do their chatting, it helps self drive cars know where to go and it can do multiple highly accurate computations incredibly quickly.

In deed it can be used to save lives, it for example can be used to check medical tests many time faster then humans can, also more accurately. It means more people can be tested and more lives could be saved. More people will get the right test result and many people will be able to thank A.I.

As well as health benefits there are also financial benefits as well. The A.I. programs can be used to detect fraud and to help guide investors. They do jobs that humans struggle to do and do so incredibly quickly.

The lack of danger is because ,like every computer, they only perform based on their input. Yes they can write a story like your favourite author but only if you load numerous examples in for it to work from. They can make any singer sing any song while appearing in a life like video, again only after a massive input of data.

Its abilities can be used for less noble aims though. Apparently there is a beautiful woman earning a fortune on her Only Fans site, only problem is she isn't actually real. Presumably photos and films of the most beautiful women the programmer can find were inputted and the Only Fans star is the composite result.

Slightly more dodgy uses can cause real life problems. There has been at least one example of the london mayor being heard using some very inflammatory language towards minority groups. The audio sounded just like him, all of it was faked. It caused outrage and nearly sparked heated demonstrations.

With general elections in the UK. Russia and America among others this year its likely that A.I. will be used. The main problem will be proving what's fake and what's for real. Also if someone slips up or is caught saying something dodgy can they claim is all fake. Especially as the fakes are so good and will presumably improve over time.

There will be companies springing up everywhere soon that will offer the technology. but its still worth remembering the positives that it has at the moment. Granted, it helps social media stalk your life and keep making you think they know what your thinking before you do. When you search for an item and the next minute your Facebook is full of the item, that's A.I.

So dont fear it but maybe be a bit wary. At the moment its used for more good then bad, to do real bad it will have to be programmed to misbehave.
