Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) is getting remastered for the next generation of consoles. This will be a remaster of the famous RPG game and one of the most iconic games in Star Wars history. It is a game that defined a generation of Star Wars games and opened up a whole new era of Star Wars games. Aspyr Media’s remake promises new graphics, new designs, and perhaps even new gameplay. With the OG KOTOR being a turn-based RPG game, the new remaster version might decide to do something a bit different this time. We may have reports on what kind of gameplay it might have.

According to CBR, it appears that the KOTOR remake might be changing its gameplay aspects. Aspyr Media may be going for something like God of War instead of the classic turn-based RPG style of gaming. This would be a bit of a departure from the usual turn-based strategy. It would mean for a more fluid combat system as well as just general movement. After all, this will be a remake of the game from the ground up, and not just a simple remaster. This is an opportunity to make improvements on the game. Some had said that the turn-based gameplay was one of the less popular aspects of the game.

It will be fascinating to see what the new Knights of the Old Republic will change and improve upon during this second time around. This game is legendary, after all. When it was first released, it opened up an era of Star Wars storytelling by telling an epic tale on the level of Skywalker saga itself. This remake has a lot to live up to, and it will be interesting to see the changes and improvements on the game.

Perhaps, there would be other additional gameplay elements as well. Will we finally see space combat, Force capabilities, and all sorts of ways that games have evolved since the early 2000’s? Video games these days are very cinematic in nature, and people like feeling a sense of real motion coming from it. Plus, the improved graphics will be fun to see. Who would not love to see characters move more naturally, like one would actually feel when watching a movie.

Another thing to consider is whether an update to the story would come in addition to the update to the graphics. Perhaps, there will be a few more extra twists and turns along the way. Perhaps, there will be a few more canonical aspects to the game, like a mention of a world or a device since the Star Wars lore today has expanded so much since 2002. It would be fun to hear mentions of canon planets like Jeddah or Exegol even if it is just a name drop. Despite this game’s status as Legends, it would still be fun to see canonical elements in a new up-to-date sort of way. After all, both canon and Legends give and take from each other instead being mutually exclusive.

Knights of the Old Republic and its sequel The Sith Lords were such amazing games. Maybe one day there will even be a third game if the remake were successful. It will be amazing to see updated graphics, gameplay, and all sorts of added tools to such an amazing game, made even more amazing for the next generation of consoles. Hopefully, it can live up to the legacy that the original game has started. Knights of the Old Republic is a legacy of Star Wars gaming of the past, and hopefully the remake will create a legacy for the future.
