The world of Star Wars has seen something of a major resurgence over the last couple of years, thanks in large part to the streaming service Disney+. This service has allowed for brand new stories to be brought to life and fans are loving it, with many of us glued to our screens each week. Beginning with season one of The Mandalorian at its inception, the streaming service has since brought us a plethora of content since, such as the long-awaited final season of The Clone Wars, and new shows such as The Bad Batch, Visions and more. Each show has been incredibly popular with the fanbase and there seems to be no sign of slowing down, with more having been announced in the last couple of months.

One of these announcements was the creation of a brand-new show focusing on the character Ahsoka Tano, who we first met during the animated film The Clone Wars and subsequent TV series. Every fan knows her as Anakin’s apprentice, and we have seen she was present during the momentous events of the prequel trilogy, surviving Order 66 and even eventually facing her former master, now operating as Darth Vader.

Despite the amazing storylines she has been involved in, she remained very much an animated character until season 2 of The Mandalorian, in which she made the jump to live-action. Despite many voicing support for original voice actress, Ashley Eckstein to take on the role, it was Rosario Dawson who would don the orange skin paint and wield those famous two sabers. Whilst many were skeptical and understandably upset at this, Dawson gave her all and won many over with her performance. So much so, that she will return in the live-action Ahsoka series.

Now, it remains to be seen just what the plot of the show will be, but based on her storyline from The Mandalorian, there’s a good chance it will involve her searching for Grand Admiral Thrawn and potentially mingling with some other familiar faces from the saga. After a shock announcement that Hayden Christensen will be returning to the role of Anakin Skywalker in the Kenobi series, a further shock was given to fans when it was announced he would also be reprising the role in the Ahsoka series too. Who knows just how exactly this is going to work out, perhaps flashbacks? In true Dawson fashion though, the star herself took to Instagram to share a Clone Wars related post at the news, using the nicknames both used for each other in that show – “Skyguy” and “Snips”. The post has since been deleted, for unknown reasons, but you can check it out below:

Despite the character of Ahsoka receiving a lot of bad press following her introduction in the Clone Wars film, the TV show allowed for a much better character development and her relationship with Anakin was easily one of the driving forces behind the shows success, so it will be amazing to see if the live-action versions can create that same chemistry we fell in love with. It’s also a smart move in terms of creating hype for the show and this new era of Star Wars we are entering. Merging the old and the new.

One of the biggest problems any franchise faces, is avoiding becoming stale and boring. Thanks to this new direction of telling stories from the same galaxy, during the same time, but from different perspectives, the franchise has had some new life breathed into.

Despite not being the original voice actors, it’s the same characters, and I for one am really excited to see just how this all unfolds and for that first moment they see each other again.

What do you think about Christensen’s inclusion in Ahsoka? Are you looking forward to it too or do you think it’s a bad idea? Be sure to let us know.

Until next time!
