Outrun Stories #35
“Rico, Rico, Rico,” he says, stood in front of me, clapping his hands slowly. “You’ve done so well! All these tasks we put out in front of you? Flip the bi-neural grid, nicely done in record time. Pull the quantum key from the Saudi’s, no problem. Swap out the 16 strings of the Fed’s network, done like a breeze, and still you’re here!”
I look up through the blood trailing down off my head and my half-closed eyes and see the man that took it all away as I tense against the restraints tying me to the chair.
“You, fuck,” I spit through the blood and shattered teeth. “I was hoping it would be you, I knew you wouldn’t be man enough to face me to begin with, but I knew you just couldn’t keep yourself away. You’re too much of an arrogant prick to let a moment like this get away from you.”
“Who the fuck do you think you are, Mr Rico? You’re not in any position to be insulting anyone right now, are you?” he takes a step closer.
“Fuck yourself, Connor,” I spit on his polished shoe.
“Oh, fuck me, like that is it?”
“It’s exactly like that, and you want to know why?” I hold my head up through the sweat and blood and smile broken teeth at him.
“Oh, Mr Rico, I would love to hear this,” he crouches in nice and low, grabbing my battered face this his leather gloved hand, and looks me dead in the eye.
“Because, Connor.” I lift my arms away from the restraints. “I hacked these cuffs.”
He barely gets the words out before I’ve got the cuffs wrapped around his neck and tearing into the flesh of his throat. Right, this is it. Up, kick the chair back and straight into the shins of the asshole bursting through the door.
He’s flying forward as I turn and whip around with Connor still gripped around the neck. The asshole is screaming about not shooting or some shit and I’m just about able to whisper to him, “You shouldn’t have pushed it, time to die.” As I snap his neck sideways and fling him forward onto the grunt on the floor.
Following the body’s trajectory, I push forward, smash my boot into the grunts face, roll and grab the gun out of his quivering hand. Time to make these fuckers pay.
Another one’s through the door and he gets a bullet in each knee for fun. Down but not out, he’s there screaming on the ground, I kneel to him. “You picked the wrong team, buddy.” I tear his ear clean off with my teeth and leave him there in agony.
Time to get this show on the road and now I have two guns. Through one door, through another, and hot damn, it’s my lucky day. A room full of them, caught them with their pants down, playing cards and having beers, no need to be alert, just one guy going to get a round in the head from the boss, business as usual right?
“One, two, barbecue!” I shout as the guns start blazing. The side of one guy’s face explodes open and I know I’ve got some special ammunition in one of these babies. Boom, boom, boom, Rico, Rico, Rico, “Chant my name motherfuckers!” The room it clouded with blood and screams, and I’ve taken a shot to the shoulder but it wouldn’t be the first time. I make the rounds of the room, make sure no one’s left alive before I can hear the engines starting up in the next.
“Here we go,” I smile to myself, this thing’s just beginning.
