Optio

There is a time in life when you have to choose. Nevertheless, a girl name Olivia Optio Lancaster had to choose. She had to choose what she would tolerate, and what she would not. She had to choose her major , dorm preference friends clubs and University. However, one day something chose her.

Olivia Optio Lancaster was a senior at Stanford University. She was African- American, liberal, ambitious, full academic scholarship lover of the ocean, debate president, international diplomatic fanatic , and sometimes a political analyst on the side. However, her major consisted of her spending time in a biology lab unlocking the secrets of her genetic sequence. She was a bio major because she wanted to have her own biotech company that would contain revolutionary medical materials for generations to come.

She started waxing down her surf board. She was on her way to Half Moon Bay in her green Subaru Outback. Her board was beautiful and blue with white stripes. She looked at her board and smiled.

On her board was a her middle name “Optio”. She loved her middle name so much even thought she never knew what it meant. Oliva’s mother never told her the meaning of her middle name she said “it just spoke it her.” She tried to search her name many times and never got an answer. She unracked her surfboard and procced to the ocean. She was in the barrel of the wave and her hand cut through the blue water . She was the most free when she surfed . She continued surfing for a few hours and then decided to call it a day. As she was loading up a car parked beside her. When she was pulling into the space out came this girl.

She smiled and was zipping her wetsuit. She was president of the Environmental Club. She had a little black book in her car.

It was the club notes and it had in interest pamphlets and it was very cool . Optio was on her way to her club and was greeted by someone else on her presidential stand . His name was Andrew Worthington. He was White and the brother of that girl that she meet on Half moon bay but she didn’t know that just yet . He was conservative , wealthy , heir of a hedge fund and very nice. She said, “can I help you?” He explained, “ I was just introducing myself .“Andrew”, she interjected . He replied , “ Yes ,how did you know that?” She said I have a list of everyone since I am president of this organization.

Oliva took out her little black book and called attendance in her head. Oliva asked, “ So where are you from”? Andrew replied, “ Brookline ,Massachusetts . She laughed and stated “how convenient , welcome to Palo Alto I am sure you will fit right in. He asked, “where are you from ? She followed “ Chester , South Carolina.” He replies , “ Cool, welcome to Palo Alto.” Everyone laughed . She got on the stand and then talked about the next debate topic which was : Which exist fate or free will? Andrew so boldly started it off he explained that free will can’t exist because you don’t always get to choose what happens to you. Optio denied his explanation by claiming “You are always in control and always have the right to choose how you respond.”

Andrew further explained , “ Honestly speaking , I am the son of Snyder Worthington and great grandson of Alexander Worthington . One of the biggest and longest lasting hedge funds in the State of New York . But , I didn’t choose to be it just happened . She instantly felt sick , she had heard that name before . She asked , “ Do you have a sister possibly by the name Destino? He replied “ yes is that’s her name .“ It means Destiny in Spanish . The club meeting ended and he asked her something . He inquired , “ have you ever been heard of the legend of three Black Books? She announced , “that is and old Palo Alto legend . Everyone who goes on that quest never finds the third one.” He assured , “but we wil.”Crazy enough she agrees just to prove him wrong . They wake up at 6:50 am sharp and hop in the car together . Every club president has a book but , only a few have the black book and due to the legend each black book has a legendary map . It was told that this map connects the missing box that contains twenty thousand dollars . Andrew stated we are going to find the third book and find out why it is so legendary . The title of the map is titled :The only choice that one cannot make , but destiny makes for you . She never understood that one. They get inside the car and the first stop is Santa Monica . In Santa Monica the quest is to find the magical coke bottle with gold engraving on it . Andrew couldn’t find it anywhere he went though of the bottles in the fridge dumping them out one by one . Optio looked as well no luck on her end either . She persisted on moving on . “ She sinquired , can we go back now? He said , “ no.”

Just as they were walking to the car her toe hits a bottle She saw sparkles and in disbelief the name "Optio Tempe is in the wrapper. Andrew stated , “ Look it is your middle name” She said yeah must be a common name.” They get in the car and go for the next step. The next step reads only the choosen ones can see the gold letters . She replied that makes no sense what so ever . Everyone on this quest obviously has seen the gold letters . He looked at the letters again , the letters had a message in them . It said , “ one who can see this message will understand step two is the desert starting with the letter A. “Arizona”, they both replied! Where in Arizona exactly though? Optio voiced , “Wait, after Optio said Tempe”.

Tempe is a city in Arizona ! So we need to go to Tempe . Tempe here we come! They drive on the interstate and suddenly a car switches lanes and scares them very much . It switches into their lane , and then out of the blue someone gets out of the car. The person has completely stopped traffic and walks up to their car. They then run up stating that the first exit on their left will have the brick. They then get inside their car and drive away. Leaving a lot of frustrated people on the interstate.

They were riding along to Tempe and he said , “ so are you single?.” She replied , “ I don’t like little privileged hedge fund boys so consider your invitation to be me boyfriend denied . He interjected hastily, “Woah , I don’t even want his company so chill out maybe.” she chucked , “ Let me guess you and your father are stuck to each other like glue. Play eighteen holes on the weekend , brag about your incredible growing stock portfolios and you only talk to girls who look like they would star lead role in Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure . He just shook his head.

As they are in the middle of their conversation they see a sign welcome to Tempe . When they arrived to Tempe, Arizona they are greeted with the turn they were supposed to make. When they made this turn they saw a brick but this brick wasn't sitting down on the ground this brick was defying gravity . This brick was floating they checked and looked to make sure that everyone else could see it too ,but everyone just kept driving by ;Everyone was walking as if this brick wasn't defying gravity. Andrew went for the brick and he tried to grab it he gets burned in that process. Optio runs to his side and looks at his hand and there's a big welt from the burn. She then persist on asking him why he would pick the brick up anyway . She then tries to pick the brick up and is very successful there is no mistake no hesitantacy ,and finally no burns. Andrew then looks to her and ask , “now how did you get to do that?” She says , “well maybe I'm just special.” He looks at her and laughs and they take the brick to their car. Andrew says you think we should break it open or something? Lancaster replies I don't know about that but maybe there's writing in it. On the brick has writing it says “truth brick” it can only be broken with the truth. Optio looks in the glove box and gets out the map and then sees about the truth brick. The truth Brick says it can only be open with one truthful phrase. They were both saying phrases over and over again thinking that it's going to break the brick open but nothing just nothing.

Optio then replies , “I wish that that I could find this little black book so I could prove to him that there's nothing inside of it and I also wish that I could have $20,000 so I could jump start my own biotech company”. And all of a sudden with no hesitancy not even a stutter of quietness the brick breaks in half. Inside this brick is 3 letters Q ,O and T . She explained now what does this mean ? Find a word that starts with the letter O, and the brick shall become a key. They go back and fourth . Ocean , octopus , options, opportunities , open. The brick still had not become a key . Then move on to Q, questions , quad , quarantine, quarterback , quantities and still nothing . Then lasty T , Tiger, tantrums, Tetra ,ten, tension . Still nothing . Optio is furious and decides to go home. She screams , “ I’m done , I am going back to Palo Alto and I’m done! I told you this stupid legend is just what it is ,a legend! She gets in the car and Andrew follows her in defeat . Optio has still small box in her hand it a box given it was washed on Hilton head and no one has ever opened it was a gift from here mom.

On the side it had something “written insert key here.” She instantly felt a strange feeling in her stomach . On her way back to Palo Alto she is still angry . She takes the bag of pieces of brick with her. Andrew follows her into the room . The answer is Latin “ it means the ablity to choose.” Andrew says “ Optio”.Finally the brick turns into a key and opens the box inside containing twenty thousand dollars. Optio couldn’t believe this whole time that what her name meant was the ability to choose in Latin . He asked , “ fate or free will?” He continued , “well before you answer think about this , I transferred here from Harvard. I had no idea I was going to meet you. You had no idea you were going to meet me .You had no idea that your box you mother gave you was going to have obtain one of Palo Alto most notable legends . So ,I ask again fate or free will girlfriend”? She replied I guess you right fate ,boyfriend. He then called his father and announced he won’t be inheriting , fate choose his destiny.
