Lilie's Edge

Cat Tails and Lilies

Her tail brushed against the edges of the lilies as she slowly plodded alongside the lake side. She looked over the calm water as the fish pecked at the water, slowly breaking the tension as bugs flew down for a drink. She breathed deeply and came to sit alongside the water, looking down at her reflection. A lily was sitting beside her. She looked over to it, and rubbed her furry face along the side of it, taking it’s fragrance and leaving her own as a trade.

Slowly something came to be sitting along one of the petals as if it has always been there. Jasmine was not startled but intrigued by this strange figure that was now looking at her. The figure gave her a koi smile then looked out into the lake. “I love it here.” The figure finally spoke. She was dressed in what seemed to be white lily petals as a dress and her hair a smooth yellow glowing and pollinating the air. Jasmine did not speak though.

Jasmine has heard of beings like this from her mother, they are the spirits of all things living, this one must be of the lily. It is rare for something that moves to see them, let alone have them speak to anything. The spirit looked back at Jasmine and glided down onto her fuzzy shoulder. She felt like nothing, as light as the air she took away. “It is beautiful, although it does get quite lonely. I’m not as close to the rest of my family as I would like to be.” She said wistfully.

Jasmine looked around noticing that the lily is quite alone in the bunch of reeds surrounding the pond, they are around but not near her. Jasmine stood up and circled the plant as it played delicately in the light breeze. “Would you like me to move you?” Jasmine asked finally, not feeling the spirit but knowing it’s presence is still there. “Would you truly do that for me? I’ve always wanted to be near my family if only for a day. Jasmine nodded her head and lifted her paw, extending one claw out.

Quick as a blink the head of the lily has fallen and was taken into Jasmine’s mouth. “Oh I cannot wait to see my family, I have heard them playing together all my life but they never heard me call out myself.” The spirit said happily as she danced playfully on Jasmine’s back. Jasmine took the lily to the others where she set it down at the base of the other lilies that are nearby. Instantly a group of spirits that resembled the one you came to know fluttered down and greeted and hugged their departed sister. She looked happy and had joy in her eyes which welled with tears. She looked at Jasmine and floated to her nose, giving it a kiss before returning to her family. They began to dance with each other and played games. Jasmine felt happy about this but knew she must be home soon. She departed without a word and returned home.

The next day she wanted to see how her new spirit friend was doing with the rest of her family and visited the spot where she dropped the lily. The head began to wilt and all the other spirits were around it. Jasmine got closer and saw that the spirit was nuzzled in her flower, using a petal to keep herself warm. She looked weakly up at Jasmine and gave her a smile. Jasmine felt a wrench in her stomach as she knew what she had done. She got closer to the lily and heard the spirit speak. “Do not worry about me for this has been the happiest time of my life. Thank you for giving this to me, as even though it is not long, I would not change it for the world.” Her sisters gathered around her and held her as she disappeared.
