Life in 615

Jerry Jenkins and "Black Book"

As city 615 bustled with the common night life of raves and illegal activities, Jerry Jenkins was simply trying to make an honest living. Finally getting a job in the market district after purchasing his first Miracle Bike. It was a much older model, but it still allowed him to travel out of the ghettos. He dreamed of the newest model that had auto-pilot and other fancy gadgets, but he had to settle for the 112 model. As he hovered through 615, heading to work at one of the only decent stores in the city, he passed by the Miracle Museum. Thinking that he hadn’t been in a while, he figured he had some time to stop in again to see the fame of one of his idols, Fredrick Miracle.

Hopping off of his bike in the artificially lit street of the city, he walked towards the museum and got a notification on his MiDe, or Miracle Device. He swiped his wrist and looked to see that a new application had been updated, called “Black Book”. Jerry had never downloaded the app so he was very confused and ended up deleting it. He walked into the museum and scanned the MiDe on his wrist to purchase a ticket. The common “500 credits: transaction complete” messaged flashed in front of his eyes and he walked in.

He went through the museum in awe of all that Mr. Miracle had done 1,000 years ago. Jerry was so drawn to him, because they grew up in similar conditions. Mr. Miracle had grown up in an old town called Chicago. He didn’t grow up rich by any means, but he worked hard to make a name for himself. Then one day, he came up with the first MiDe. No one knew how he made it or where he even got the funds for it. One day he was just scrapping by in life and the next he had the greatest technology company to ever exist, M.Corp. Miracle Corporation started pumping out more and more technology under Mr. Miracle’s leadership.

The first MiDe seemed to just be a hi-tech smart watch, but it ended up being so much more. Similar to today, they were able to message and call people. As well as look up things on the internet, but it was just a big screen strapped to your wrist. Today’s MiDe are hooked up into your nervous system. You can see everything in the air in front of you.

Just like the cities, everyone is given a number at birth and a MiDe. This is how everyone contacts each other and also receives and pays credits. It is also how criminal activity is tracked, normally. When it comes to everything good, someone always figures out a way around it. Within the past hundred years of 615, there have been a couple of groups that have been able to hack the MiDe so that they can make more money committing crimes. Jerry always had a strong sense of justice so he never got his hacked.

Jerry continued on in the museum to learn that Mr. Miracle later created the concept for the domes that everyone currently lives in. He learned that a long time ago everyone used to live outside of the domes, but about 800 years ago the Earth lost its’ ozone. Now the air outside is poisonous to everyone but the Geolites, the monsters that live outside of the domes. No one really knows how it all happened but Mr. Miracle had some type of foresight. People seem to think that he was inventing them to be able to live on other planets, but sadly they were needed on Earth.

After his passing, the company was given to his son, Adam. Like his father, he was brilliant. He figured out ways to travel without using natural resources, ultimately laying the ground work for the Miracle Bike. The company ended up getting into the medical field, creating better medicine. Most disease was all but eradicated by the time that Adam had passed.

Years later is when it all happened, the Cataclysm. It is said that the air became warmer and thousands of people were dying daily. No one knew what to do. Everyone had lived a comfortable disease-free life. It is recorded that people were living well into their two-hundreds. That’s when he showed up, Fredrick Miracle. Named after his great-great-great-grandfather, Fredrick seemed to have saved the world. He had found the plans for the domes and immediately used all of M.Corp’s resources to build them. Slowly countries started buying them and people were saved. The domes have the ability to create and sustain their own air supply. They also are built with very strong materials that M.Corp created.

Once the domes were up and running, everyone moved into the 7,350 cities. Lucky for them, because shortly after the Geolites appeared. Huge beasts that seem to be from another world entirely started attacking the domes. They lasted…for a while. With their claws and ability to rapidly evolve acid spit, they destroyed many of the domes over the years. With M.Corp at the top of society, they never stopped helping the people. The turned to manufacturing weapons to defeat them and that is how the Miracles were born. The Miracles are an army outfitted with suits of armor made with the same technology of the domes. With their suits and weapons, they fight the Geolites. Even so, not everyone could be saved. Today, only 3,600 domes exist.

As Jerry was wandering the museum, he got another notification on his MiDi. “Black Book” was back on his screen. This time Jerry opened it and a list of names popped up. Thousands of them. He read a couple, the first being Maria Sebregondi. He scrolled through by flicking his finger in the air and stumbled upon names like Ken Ross, Sarah Morleffy, Robert Nagle, and many more. Then his heart sank as he stumbled upon a name he recognized. Not knowing any of the other names, Jerry found one that stood out. That name was Fredrick Miracle. The list went on and he searched to find anyone else.

He found one that was near the bottom of the list that he knew. Aaron Waze, who created Waze Gaming, a subsidiary of M.Corp. His company makes games that you can play on your MiDe, but unlike any other games that have ever been made. They are Augmented Reality games that feel real. The company took off and has served as the owner of the new Miracles training facility. They are able to make real life simulations to train all new recruits with.

Then Jerry finally got to the bottom of the list and there was an empty space with a cursor blinking. He clicked on it and the keyboard popped up. He thought hard about the names that he recognized. Both people created something that changed aspects of the world, one of which was his idol. Jerry thought that if Fredrick Miracle signed his name on this list, that he had no reason not to. Just to be on the same list as his idol was enough for him. So now at the bottom of the list read, Jerry Jenkins.

As soon as he hit ‘enter’, the app closed and the icon disappeared from his screen. Next was a notification on his MiDe that read, “2,000,000 credits: transfer complete”. Jerry’s jaw dropped and then he looked around to make sure no one was looking at him. He pulled up his account to see if the notification was real. He couldn’t believe that he actually got a transfer of 2,000,000 credits. That’s almost half of a pretty cheap house.

“Is this what happened to Mr. Miracle when he signed his name?”, Jerry thought. He searched the web for a conversion rate and found out that if it were true, then Mr. Miracle would have received 20,000 USD. That would explain the mystery behind how he financed his inventions. He must have invested it. Jerry left the museum with his mind racing. He had to live up to the other names on that list. Jerry was given a life changing chance because of “Black Book”. How would he invest it? What all could he do with the credits? Hopefully he would one day rise up out of the ghetto of 615. Who knows, maybe a museum would be made about him some day.
