Knights of the Old Republic might be so popular that fans are keeping their fingers crossed for a possible Knights of the Old Republic 3 someday. The Star Wars spin-off video game is not anything less than an exhilarating experience, and the quality of the game was superior to the sequel that came later. There were talks of a threequel, but nothing came to light. However, there is a bit of hope.

Recently, the popular Sith Lord Darth Revan was trending at random on Twitter. All of this news broke on the internet confirming that an actual remake of the best Star Wars game ever made was on the way. For years, rumors have spread over a long period of time that the KOTOR franchise should have some kind of continuation on gaming platforms. However, Knights of the Old Republic was to be officially decanonized a year and a half after Lucasfilm was purchased by Disney. But here is the big scoop on the return of KOTOR

As of January 2021, Jason Schreier of Bloomberg teased that a Knights of the Old Republic remake was in development and that fans would “never guess” what developer was making the game. A few weeks after teasing the possibility, Schreier responded to speculation about Aspyr Media developing the remake by saying, “Hmm!” Even more teasing kept on coming. Schreier has finally confirmed that the speculation about KOTOR remake’s developer is indeed true.

Aspyr Media, known for designing and developing several Star Wars video games in the past, is now working on a remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Recently, in an interview with MinnMax's Ben Hanson, Schreier confirmed that Aspry Media is developing a remake of the classic 2003 game.

“That’s true, yeah. This is public at this point. I mean, I basically confirmed that Aspyr, which is a company that has ported a bunch of KOTOR games, is working on a remake.”

The tease for the past few months has now been confirmed, and fans can rejoice that a Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake is pretty much on the way. Currently, it is unknown if when Aspyr Media will announce the game to make the whole thing official. Based on Schreier’s recent openness about the project, it is possible that a reveal might be on the way.

But here is a breakdown of the history of the Knights of the Old Republic franchise, courtesy of Inverse:

"BioWare’s Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (2003) focuses on a Jedi turned Sith turned whatever-you-want who lived about 4,000 years before the events of the core Star Wars movie trilogies. It plays similarly to BioWare’s older Dragon Age games except in the ancient times of Star Wars, except instead of magic, you build up your skills with the Force and choose to follow either the Dark or Light Side.

The cast of characters is as interesting and varied as any Star Wars story, but the sprawling scope and depth to the narrative are only made better by dialogue trees that allow you to influence so much of the story. It was an engaging model that went on to become a key facet of many future BioWare games, including the Mass Effect trilogy."

EA’s exclusive deal on developing Star Wars games is set to expire in 2023, so a lot more publishers and developers will get a chance to tell more Star Wars stories in digital gaming. Fans will most likely expect a game a similar to the original Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Fun times ahead!
