What is Transhumanism?

The transhumanism philosophy is the idea that the human race can evolve beyond its current physical and mental limitations, especially by means of scientific and technological advances. Transhumanists believe that by using these methods, we can overcome death and eventually live in a society where we are all virtually immortal.

The first public use of the term “transhumanism” was by Julian Huxley in 1957.

I talked about transhumanism in this article here. A lot of people are puritans, which is not a bad thing. However, not knowing that the moment we started using tools, that was the moment we went beyond our natural limitations for the improvement of human conditions.

When we talk about technology, a lot of people have a narrow definition of "modern technology." However, the word technology means the application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes. Creating fire by rubbing two sticks together is also a form of technology. Using a wedge to break a log is also a technology. Technology does not have to be something limited to modern technology; even a bow and arrow is considered a technology.

We have always been transhumanists

The fact is that we have always been transhumanists, though transhumanism is specifically viewed as a modification of biological bodies. However, this should not be a shock to us because we saw it coming. We sold our bodies for labor.

A person wakes up every day to go to work in exchange for money. If you were a puritan, you would have stopped that from the beginning. Instead of using our own limbs to walk over long distances, we use vehicles, airplanes, trains, and other heavy equipment to enhance our ways of doing things.

If you really don’t want anything to do with transhumanism, you should consider letting these technological conveniences out of your system. Even reading this post, these are the fruits of technology. We rarely think with our minds anymore. We let computers think for us.

In fact, we have sunk too deep into transhumanism than anyone realizes, and it is difficult to return to the original or natural way of living.

Transhumanism is not evil.

The main purpose of transhumanism is to elevate and improve the quality of life. Even from a medical standpoint, those who are disabled can use technology to improve their genetic disorders. By applying science, disabled people can get prosthetic arms, hearing aids, and many other things that technology has to offer.

The Future of Transhumanism

With the introduction of the Metaverse by the company formerly known as Facebook. Mark Zuckerberg unveiled a lot of things that gravitate around augmented reality. The event has sparked a lot of negative and positive reactions.

However, the fact is we are evolving beings and are in the stage where we are moving into higher levels of consciousness. So, whether we want it or not this is our destiny.

Before the discovery of the internet, it would take days for someone to research a single topic. In the days since the internet was discovered, every piece of information can be accessed at the touch of a finger. We can communicate with people across the planet. For instance, long are the days gone of mailing handwritten letters. We embraced and loved every part of it.

These major tech companies are only recipients of the changes, they serve only as tools to bring about these changes, so we should never fear them. It’s time to embrace the future and enjoy what it has to offer.
