If This Show, Then Why Not that One

I am more of a science fiction buff myself, and I enjoy Star Wars, Star Trek, Deep Space Nine, and Star Trek the New Generation. I remember watching Dune when it first aired in nineteen eighty-five. I enjoyed it, but it is an old show with old graphics and technologies. If they have created a more recent version of it, I do not know about it, and someone should send a complaint to their public relations office to let them know they did not do their job well!

I believe a well-rounded show can have many spin-offs. For instance, Star Trek: Deep Space had seven seasons. When their season ended, most of their fans wanted more. I believe this is because Star Trek’s creators had created stories to be entertained and opened the entire universe of possibilities. However, I do not think this was their intention.

They intermixed the shows together by having some of the cast and crew become a part of other Star Trek shows such as Deep Space Nine. How do I know this? My information comes from watching the shows. Deep Space Nine is a Stayover post in space for all the starships to dock for relaxation and ship repairs if necessary and protect a wormhole. Deep Space Nine also had Star Trek characters become permanent cast and crew members when Star Trek the Next Generation seasons ended.

Deep Space Nine was not the only show to spin-off from Star Trek; Enterprise and Voyager were two others. The show Enterprise took place about a century before Captain Kirk’s five-year mission. Jonathan Archer’s father developed the first warp core that could reach warp five, and Jonathan Archer was chosen, only after rigor testing by Starfleet; they had to make sure he could handle such a task set ahead of him. His assignments eventually led up to the Romulan wars and created the United Federation of Planets.

Voyager’s time frame was to be during Star Trek the Next Generation, and Deep Space Nine as Deep Space Nine is where Captain Catherine Janeway launched Voyager to go on their mission. Voyager was tasked to find a Maquis ship that Chakotay commanded. Upon seeing the Maquis ship, they were caught up in an anomaly and were whisked off to the far reaches of the universe into the Alpha Quadrant. Voyager and its crew discovered it would take them centuries to make it back to earth. Their many adventures had us entertained and wondering what the intrepid team would encounter next.

You do not see shows like this anymore. What made the shows great is the mixture of diverse cultures, people being in a very troubling time, and how they made it out of situations no matter the odds against them.

The possibilities are endless on how many spin-offs Star Trek can have, and more than one, as the previous Star Trek storylines have told us, can run simultaneously. A recent suggestion could be a show with the time travelers; to show how Starfleet kept their timeline in place while other fractions kept trying to tear it apart to create a timeline that would benefit their world.

Star Wars have many different types of stories resulting from the very first Star Wars movie. Star Wars and Star Trek’s difference is that Star Trek kept most of their shows specifically for television viewing. It is great to have a show in the box office, except if it is a challenging year, it may result in not getting the ticket sales you need to compensate for money spent making the movies.

The Prime timeline for all Star Trek shows movies included. Star Trek: Enterprise should have been the first show in the Star Trek timeline. It aired between 2001 to 2005. The second in the story timeline is Discovery; It aired between 2017 to 2019. It is the second in the storyline but not in real-time. Star Trek, the original series in the story timeline, should have aired after Discovery, but Star Trek initially aired in 1966 - 1969. Star Trek had an animated version, and it aired between 1973-1974.

In 1979 Star Trek the Motion Picture debuted, and it started a chain of box office movies. The Wrath of Chon 1982, The Search for Spock 1984, The Voyage Home 1986, The Final Frontier 1989, The Undiscovered Country 1991.

Next on the story timeline is Star Trek the Next Generation 1987-1994. They picked up where Captain Kirk and his crew left off. Deep Space Nine is the same as Star Trek the New Generation as their timelines are the same as far as the story is concerned but aired in 1993-1999. Star Trek Generations is next on the story timeline; it aired only one year in 1994. Star Trek Voyager is next on the story timeline, and at the same time as The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine, it aired between 1995-2001.

The Next Generation had three motion pictures, First Contact 1996, Insurrection 1998, Nemesis 2002. Picard is a show and aired in 2020; I am not sure what the authors had in mind with that show, but I found it kind of boring. There were times I thought it would get more action-packed, but there was not much there. Maybe I just have not seen all of it; If it were a series, I only saw the first episode.

Even with sitcoms, you can do a scene switch, as long as you have a show based in the same area as the show, or change the setting only temporarily. You can have a guest appearance with other cast members of such as Friends could visit Cheers in Massachusetts and have an entertainment mix. Friends could have to go to Massachusetts to visit someone and have a clever combination of entertainment. The original Cheers cast members might not participate, but they could visit the original Cheers in today’s format. It is okay if Cheers does not exist, but you can make it live for one episode or even a series of episodes.

People are creating movies and show that most people can sit down to watch as a family is becoming harder and harder to develop as people and technologies are continually changing. I honestly believe this is one way of creating shows for people to come together to create and watch.

If I had to look up anything, I used Wikipedia and Google to help me with the Star Trek shows’ valid dates to find out the premiered year. I also use them to look up the storyline timeline.
