Have You Seen This Fan Art Turning Finn Into Regal Jedi Knight?

In the more innocent days of 2015, three years after Disney purchased the Star Wars franchise, a new movie was released called Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The film signaled the start of the sequel trilogy, meaning Episodes VII, VIII, and IX, and the closing of what became known as the Skywalker Saga. In the first movie, fans immediately became divided by what they saw, and even though the prospect of a new Star Wars movie was exciting for most, the content did leave much to be desired, at least for some.

In the story, we meet some fresh-faced characters who enter the Star Wars universe, Rey, who would become Rey Skywalker by Episode 9 and all-around Jedi, and Finn aka FN-2187, a stormtrooper who left the First Order to become a "Big Deal" within the resistance but by Episode 9 has become somewhat of a side character in the Star Wars universe despite his grand entrance and teased potential. Now fans have released some fantastic art which shows what could have been or still could be if given the proper reception.

In The Force Awakens, Rey is given the opportunity to wield the lightsaber that once belonged to famed Jedi Master Luke Skywalker. During a scene near the movie's climax, Finn and Han Solo are pinned down outside Maz Kanata's castle on Takodana facing First Order troopers led by Kylo Ren. Maz hands Finn the lightsaber to help fight back the troopers during the battle. The movie shows him attempting to wield the saber as was intended and certainly led many to believe that we were about to see another great POC Jedi like Mace Windu in the making.

However, Rey is the one who becomes a Jedi. Then towards the end of the movie, we see Rey call Luke's lightsaber to her hand after Finn is overmatched by Kylo Ren and loses the lightsaber. From that point on, any thoughts of Finn becoming a Jedi were dashed, and he was relegated to someone with possible Force abilities, but never was there a discussion on developing that plotline. However, artist Andres Bellorin featured the above image on Twitter which shows Finn to become the Jedi many hoped he would be.

Finn actor, Jon Boyega, voiced his frustrations of being left in the cold within the world of Jedi, saying, "do not bring out a black character, market them to be much more important in the franchise than they are and then have them pushed to the side. It's not good. I'll say it straight up... You knew what to do with these other people, but when it came to Kelly Marie Tran when it came to John Boyega, you know [expletive] all."

Following these comments, Boyega stated that he and some unnamed Disney executives did sit down and talk to go over his time in the franchise and how "I'd hope that me being so open with my career, at this stage, would help the next man." For now, Boyega has resigned himself that he won't be asked back in the Star Wars fold, and honestly, he has moved onto other projects but like with all things Star Wars, you never really say "NO" as a definitive answer. An original version of Episode IX by Colin Trevorrow piqued Boyega's interest in staying in the world of Star Wars. In this version, Finn helps lead an uprising of conscripted stormtroopers against the First Order. There is both concept art and even a script for this version of the movie.

The second reason he would come back is, "I'm a Mandalorian fan, so Lucasfilm is doing very well with the TV shows." The timeline for The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett is five years after the Return of the Jedi and 30 years before The Force Awakens. Is it possible that in order make good on how the character was treated could we see Finn again as the leader of a squad trying to clean up the last of the Final Order following the events of The Rise of Skywalker? Or perhaps we could see a story developed by Disney that talks about how people from across the galaxy were conscripted into joining the first order?
