Global Warming is creeping in...

We need to make a change.

Global Warming

Throughout time we have seen vast changes in our world from population growth, to gender equality, women rights, to gun control. But one topic of discussion that always seems to be up in the air is over our home, our world, where we choose to live our lives and raise our families. We are talking about global warming. Global warming as a discussion would put most people into a panic with whom they are discussing the topic with. It seems as though so many people don't believe in global warming whereas there is an equal amount of people who do.

The reasoning behind the argument of whether or not global warming is real or just a hoax can stem from many different aspects. I will first discuss the side of people who believe in global warming. National Geographic has stated that there has been a unmistakeable upward trend in climate change over the course of the past 10 or so years. Climate change is used in the discussion of global warming as global warming affects our planet’s wether and climate systems. Within the definition of climate change, we see not only temperatures rising, but also extreme wether events, wildlife populations fluctuating, habitats fluctuating, rising tides in the ocean, and a range of other impacts as well. The reason for the rising temperatures and all of these other chainlink events taking place is because of greenhouse gases being omitted into our atmosphere from our factories, cars, etc. When we support these factories in our world we are letting these harmful gases enter our o-zone layer, and thus are blocking up the stream of clean air, and leading to mass pollution.

There are many ways in which a large portion of the population believes in global warming such as ice caps melting, tsunamis, or even for example, this past week on campus, one morning we had 3 inches of snow, the next few days after that we are in the 60 degree range.

“The answer to the question, “Is global warming real?” is yes: Nothing other than the rapid rise of greenhouse gas emissions from human activity can fully explain the dramatic and relatively recent rise in global average temperatures.” (National Geographic)

This is just one article explaining their thoughts on global warming but there are so many more statistics and stories to back up the claims of global warming being real.

Now we will discuss the opposing side of this heated argument. As I had previously exclaimed, many people believe in global warming, whereas many people do not. Many believe that global warming is a hoax, based on the fact that they believe that there is no hard evidence, just things happening in the world.

"The Fourth National Climate Assessment offers no hard evidence, just vague assertions and claims that past climate change is no evidence about future climate change," (Dr. Ken Haapala)

This quote explains how as I mentioned before, how many believe that there is no real evidence. There is not much reasoning as to why the non-believers, are non-believers, but they just do not believe that they are in the wrong. They believe that the idea of humans wrecking our world is a sheer over exaggeration.

This topic is such a good one to write about because there are so many different reasonings, and sides to take. Appealing to reason is huge in this argument as each side could appeal to the fact that the suggested evidence lines up or if it does not. Ethos is definitely a part of this argument as well as it is all about culture and a communities and their beliefs and aspirations of whether or not the claims are true or false. I wouldn't say that pathos is largely involved, but it is in a sense because some people do care a lot about this topic. The context for this argument based off of my readings seem to be very welly written and researched so this is a full proof argument. Overall, this argument makes its point in so many different aspects. There are mainly 2 sides, but then you have some people in the middle who are not sure about which side they are choosing and will take pieces from both sides. This was a very fun topic to write about as it provided mass amounts of information.
