Gemini Season 2021

Gemini

Gemini is one of the original constellations of the 'Wheel of Animals' that make up our zodiac. It is the first of the zodiac signs to have human representation. Ancient Babylonians had 12 constellations, with the forgotten 13th we know as the 'Serpent Bearer' Ophiuchus who only has a two week window of our Sun traveling through him right before Sagittarius. Gemini is one of the 48 recorded constellations by the Greek astronomer, Ptolemy during the 2nd century. Today the International Astronomical Union (IAU) defined 88 constellations in total.

Gemini has two major meteor showers associated with it: Geminids, best viewed December 13 & 14, and the Rho Geminids. Alpha and Beta Geminorum, the two brightest stars in the constellation, mark each head of Gemini.

The best time to view Gemini is in the Winter months when it is highest in the sky. During May until June, the sun shines in front of it and this is why it is considered Gemini Season. Gemini is Latin for 'twins', but the myth of these twins spans several different cultures and they have many names. My personal favorite is that these twins represent a Spiritual Duality. This is a balance and harmony of the energies in nature. Eastern philosophies call it Yin and Yang.

Gemini Mythology

Gemini are the twin sons of Zeus who are named Castor and Pollux. They have a temple dedicated to them and were the Gods of horses, Knights, and shipwrecked sailors. Under the theme of balance, they were of both heaven and earth. Only one twin was considered to be immortal and when the other was killed in battle, it was immortal Pollux who asked their father to intervene because he couldn't go on living without his twin brother. They had both fallen in love with the same woman, Telaire, who favored Castor. Pheobe, a friend of Telaire's had fallen in love with the immortal Pollux. Due to the laws governing nature, Zeus couldn't bring Castor back to life. So Pollux goes down into the underworld, battles the demons of Hades and switches places with his brother for one whole day. When Pheobe sees Castor, she takes her own life in confusion. Telaire accuses Castor of never having loved her when she learns the truth. Zeus then casts both brothers into the sky were they could both be together forever.

There is a mythological tale of Gemini traveling with Jason for the Golden Fleece and has a 15th century order of chivalry founded by Phillip III, Duke of Burgundy named after it. Gemini were even celebrated by the Celts as gods who came from the sea. I wonder if the Celtic Seahorse Zodiac sign date, May 13 until June 9, has anything to do with them?

Gemini Personality

Gemini seems to move through life at such a quick pace, trying different hobbies, careers, lovers, and personas, it seems as though they don't really stop to think very deep. Where can they fit in and be themselves? The planet of communication, Mercury, rules over Gemini. I expect that Gemini gets used to feeling misunderstood sometimes, especially during the Gemini Season in 2021. So hey, Gemini! Pay attention to the Universe because this would be a good time for you to slow yourself down a bit and open up for what others are trying to communicate to you.

Like everyone else right now, Gemini should curb spending. You'll probably get some excellent news, but sit on it until Mercury Retrograde is over! During this time it would be best work on building good character and personal credit. Every new moon phase is all about fresh starts and clarity, so look ahead to the next few months and write down your intentions for then.

On May 31 the Mercury retrograde begins and that ends June 21 (phew!) but the introverted energy that a New Moon can bring during this particular phase will have you feeling stuck. Don't worry though! This celestial vacation for your spirit sprints forward on June 21, just as homebody Cancer takes over.

A Gemini is easily sociable and creative, and they are the motivators for all the other signs. Remember all those plans that Saturn-ruled Capricorn laid down back in December 2020 for rebuilding? The majority of that gets carried out by busy Gemini. People born under this sign tend to be a great multi-tasker who can have several projects going on at once. They tend to begin one project before finishing another. With the right level of practiced self-discipline, a Gemini can accomplish a great deal in a short amount of time. They will easily bring others in to help get things done, too. Before you know it, an innocent conversation with a Gemini will have you wearing overalls, paintbrush in hand as you help them with some crazy project! Then off they go again to find out everything they can about the next big project, and of course they'll find more unwitting people to recruit. Don't be upset if they seemingly forget about you. They were just checking on one of their other projects...then they decided to relax while making necklaces under the shade of a tree somewhere. Don't worry, they made you one! And YOU thought you had a date? Gemini really aren't insensitive, they just really figured you enjoyed creative projects as much as they did.

Gemini Romance

I think the best sign for a Gemini to be in a relationship with...can ONLY be another Gemini of course! This is probably the only other sign I can think of with certainty that desperately needs another fast-paced, quick-thinker who has the same patience to deal with the many faceted personality traits that Gemini has. Spiritual Duality, remember? Not to mention the androgynous energy of ruling Mercury. I know, I know! Virgo is also ruled by this planet, but Virgo is an Earth Sign. This match is too down-to-earth and nit-picky for Gemini. Plus, jealous Virgo doesn't like feeling ignored. The other two Air Signs, Aquarius and Libra are both too sensitive and both will definitely want to make sure everyone gets paid on those Gemini projects...work isn't free, after all! How dare Gemini take advantage of his friends like that?

A Fire Sign like Aries or Leo could possibly be a good match. Sun rules Leo and all the other planets revolve around it. Aries is ruled by Mars, the planet of war and since Gemini is considered the gods of horses, chivalry, and sailors, they may make an excellent long-term match!

Astrology DOES even have energy that is androgynous (non-gender specific), and the planet Mercury is just one of the planets whose energy falls under that definition. The three zodiac signs that fall into the mutable element of Air are Libra, Aquarius and Gemini.

Air can be a funny element. They can inspire or smother, depending on other factors in our birth charts. It has a nature that picks up on other energies and can create change. Air will either feed the passion and anger of Fire Signs Leo, Sagittarius, and Aries, or this element can 'take the wind out of their sails', so to speak. Air Signs can get the deeply emotional Water Signs like Pisces, Scorpio, and Cancer, to look under their own surface so they can open up and express themselves more, or Air can cause a flood of drowning emotion. When it comes to the stability of Earth Signs Taurus, Capricorn, and Virgo, Air Signs can help them dig in deeper roots or upend all those plans.

Gemini Celebrity Twin Flame

I have to say that there are two Celebrity Gemini's that I love watching!

Mark Sheppard from London who made Crowley as the King of Hell on Supernatural the sexiest demon on TV I ever watched! He was so hilariously...devilish! And his accent is lovely, isn't it? Djimon Hounsou (Blood Diamond, Constantine) also is another lovely onscreen presence, but he's a Taurus. I just love hearing accents! On top of acting, Sheppard is a musician and has done voices on two video games, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War (Roman Knight Gray, a DLC) and The Conduit (Michael Ford).

AND...

Marie Avgeropoulos starred on The 100 as Octavia Blake and made her character amazing! I wondered if during filming she ever got sick of screaming that one line 'You are Wonkru! Or an enemy of Wonkru! Choose!' because personally I think she enjoyed saying that just way too much!

Solar Eclipse

Following earthy Taurus Season, the airy sign of Gemini breezes us into Summer! Gemini Season began on May 21 and will last until June 20. After a total lunar eclipse on May 26, our celestial summer events this year continue with a total solar eclipse on June 10th, during a New Moon in Gemini! When our Moon transits between us and the Sun, we get a Solar Eclipse.

It's kind of nice that during Gemini Season, our Moon transits through a new moon phase while we'll have a powerful Solar Eclipse, eh? In Astrology the zodiac signs and the planets that rule them are categorized into elements, energies, and polarities. There are 12 houses and each represent a specific area of our life. Some people are born with no planet or sign in one or several houses. Here is an example: When the Moon is in the 6th House, which governs self-improvement work and is ruled by Virgo and the planet Mercury, a good question to ask is 'What phase of the moon is happening and in what sign is it happening in?' The astrological energies of Virgo and Mercury will be affected either positively or negatively depending on the transiting planet and even whether it is retrograde or not. The moon only spends 2 - 2.5 days in a sign. This particular transit won't last long because the Moon is fast moving compared to the slower planets farther away from us. By the time I hit the 'submit' button, the 6th house will have a different planet transiting through. The aspects of this house that is governed by Virgo and Mercury will be affected differently.

You can't view a Solar Eclipse with the naked eye! Please be safe and kind to yourself and follow these simple safety procedures recommended by National Geographic:

• Don't stare directly at the sun! The retina of the eye can burn in as little as 30 seconds, especially when using binoculars! Because the retina has no pain receptors, you won't even feel this happening until way after all the damage is done!
• Warning for aspiring Astronomers: Please don't use your instruments to project a solar eclipse onto anything because the heat will burn up the cement fittings and eyepiece optics of your equipment. Attempting to view one through a telescope is as damaging to your eyes. That's how dangerous the unfiltered, magnified heat of the sun from a solar eclipse is!
• Don't waste money on solar eyepieces for telescopes that are advertised to protect your eye! The lens can crack and the magnified sun will hit your eye causing permanent blindness! There was a Solar Eclipse a few years ago in 2019 during the Summer Solstice on June 2, and quite a few people made the news by NOT HEEDING WARNINGS! Let's have this one in 2021 go a bit better, shall we?

DO use approved mylar filters for your telescope and you can find these from major telescope manufacturers.

Do make a pinhole projector.

• NEVER LOOK DIRECTLY AT THE SUN THROUGH PINHOLE CONTRAPTIONS!!

For a pinhole projector, poke a three-millimeter-wide pinhole into a square piece of cardboard paper. Then, keeping the sun behind you, project the sun through that hole onto another white piece of paper. Now you can safely view the projected image of the sun on that second piece of paper.
