The moon will make it's first opposition to the sun for the 2022 spring season in a couple of days. On the 16th, the moon will find itself at the midpoint of it's cycle in cardinal, airy Libra. Anytime the moon makes this lunar-solar aspect, we have a full moon. The entirety of the moon being illuminated by the sun is where the "full" part comes from. Speaking to energy, the full moon in every lunar cycle marks a period of clarity, release, cultivation, and often, heightened intuition and emotions. This full moon will be in the sign of the scales, which is ruled by Venus and associated with the seventh house (7H) in astrology, which makes this a great time to focus on our relationships, partnerships, physical appearance, finances, and overall well-being.

The moon in Libra

Libra is a cardinal sign (occurs at the beginning of the fall season) in the air element. Libra energy is diplomatic, generous, kind, adaptable, artistic, and social. The full moon being in this sign will bring in an energy that provides some clarity, illuminating the areas that need a little bit of light regarding the aforementioned energies. The Libra zodiac is considered the scale, as it is associated with balance and justice. This moon will help us tap into the energies needed to bring anything that is "out of whack" in our lives back into alignment. As this is a cultivation period, expect to see a return on the things you find yourself working on over the next few weeks, around the beginning of the fall season. Since the full moon is also a time that aligns with release, we may also find ourselves ending relationships that no longer serve us, that may have once held a lot of power - due to Libra's association with the seventh house and relationships.

Libra belongs to the air element, which encompasses all things dealing with the mental: intellect, perspective, and communication. This full moon in Libra prompts us to clear our heads, come up with our logical next steps, and set forward on taking those steps. The fire energy if the Aries cycle that the libra full moon falls under gives us an extra jolt of energy for these tasks. This full moon in Libra will also come with a bit of intensity. We can attribute this to a square aspect the moon makes with Pluto (in Capricorn). Pluto's influence is quite compelling as it governs the areas of transformation and regeneration in our lives. The Plutonian energy paired with Libra's Venusian influence can prompt us to start taking a look at the connections we have in our lives. Some of us will spend the next couple of weeks revisiting old memories and carefully analyzing our previous experiences to help us make a decision on what (or who) we'd d like to take with us on the journey ahead. Some people and situations will most likely get left behind as this is a time of release, there's also a retrograde coming up in Pluto that starts at the end of the month - it's time to start reflecting and correcting.

Libra full moon rituals

Intentions are a great way to manifest the things you want to see in your life. It's best to do your moon rituals as close to the transit as you can, but realistically speaking, that isn't always possible. If you can, try to at least get them done at some point during the shadow period, which is around three to four days leading up to and also following the full moon. As a last resort, you can do them at some point before the next new or full moon. Remember to look at what else the moon has going on and the sign that it's in so that you can also incorporate these energies into your rituals. It is important to remember that the full moon marks the beginning of the end of a lunar cycle therefore, intentions shouldn't be focused on bringing in anything new. Instead, write intentions with phrases like "I release," "I no longer," and "I have clarity on/in" related to the Libra energy of this lunar transit. You can write your intentions on an index card or a small piece of paper and burn them (somewhere safe!). Another way to tap into this full moons' vibes is by working with the air element. Go outside, take a walk, and get some fresh air.

Full moons and new moons are a great time to get in touch and in tune with our spiritual energy, sometimes called our "higher selves." Working with colors, scents, and stones associated with the Libra zodiac energy is one of the best ways to make the most of the spiritual tools you have available. Libra colors include pink, light blue, and pastel shades. Light and airy scents like fresh linen are best to work with for this particular moon. A few Libra stones that you can work with for the next few weeks are: Blue Kyanite, Chrysoprase, Lapis Lazuli, Lilac Lepidolite, Rose Quartz, and White Jade. You can either place these stones around you, wear or carry them, or meditate with them to get the full effects of their healing properties.

Don't forget about Aries…and get ready for Taurus!

The Libra full moon lands falls under the opposite sign, Aries. The Aries new moon was a couple of weeks ago (Apr. 1) and set the tone for the duration of this lunar cycle, which will end when the moon makes its transit into the next sign, Taurus. While the Aries themes will be a lot less intense moving away from that lunar transit, some residual energy will linger for about two weeks, or until we have the new moon in Taurus. You can also use the last couple of weeks in April to pair your Libra full moon rituals with some Aries new moon tools. A good way to mix in Aries energy is to add a couple of Aries stones to your Libra collection. A few Aries crystals you could use are: Black Kyanite, Bloodstone, Fire Agate, Hypersthene, Red Jasper, and Ruby Zoistite. You can also incorporate the fire element - just step outside and soak up some sunlight (wear your sunscreen!).

The Libra full moon energy will stay with us for about a month, or until we have the Scorpio full moon (May. 16). The strength of the effects will be more prominent during the full moon shadow periods. Again, it's better to do your moon rituals on during the transit however, if you're unable to during that time, the shadow period is always a good second option (speaking to spirituality - it's all about intention, do what works best for you…don't worry about anybody telling you that you can't do your rituals because the moon left a certain sign). This lunar transit will primarily affect individuals with natal Libra moon placements, specifically in 26 degrees or within the orb (six to seven degrees). People with a lot of Libra, cardinal, and air in their chart(s) can expect for this to be a transformative time, even if it's not clearly evident on a conscious level. Additionally, anywhere you find these placements in your chart can give you a hint as to what this new moon might bring in for you based on the surrounding planets, houses, and aspects.
