Wow! After pushing the idea of a massive 'Two-Part' finale all season, Doctor Who threw a twist at fans in psuedo-historical episode 'The Haunting Of Villa Diodati', introducing the Lone Cyberman a week early. Unfortunately, The Doctor is unable to heed Captain Jack's warning from 'Fugitive Of The Judoon', forced to give the Cyberman the Cyberium it was seeking in order to keep History intact.

With another big Cybermen story heading our way, it feels like a good time to look back on what's come before. So, here are some of the best Cybermen episodes from NuWho.

1. Army Of Ghosts/ Doomsday

After bringing Rose home for a visit to discover strange 'Ghosts' appearing every few hours, The Tenth Doctor and his beloved companion quickly begin to investigate. They are quickly captured by Torchwood, and to make things worse, the 'ghosts' are revealed to be Cybermen arriving through a breach in the universe. Worse still, Torchwood also has an about to open Dalek void ship in it's possession.

While 'Doomsday' is probably better known for the departure of Rose Tyler than it's Cyberman content, but it did give us the iconic Dalek Vs Cybermen sass-off seen in the above video.

2. Closing Time

Believing that his death is imminent, The Eleventh Doctor embarks on a 'final tour', stopping along the way for what is supposed to be a brief visit with his old friend Craig and Craig's new baby son Alfie/Stormageddon. Unfortunately, The Doctor is forced to stick around longer than planned when he discovers Cybermen in the local Mall.

Again, 'Closing Time' is probably better remembered for the comedic chemistry between Matt Smith and James Corden than it is for the Cyberman plot, but it's still a good, fun episode.

3. Nightmare In Silver

When Clara's young charges Angie and Artie discover her time-travelling secret, she and The Doctor take them on a trip to an outer-space theme park, Hedgewick's World Of Wonders, to buy their silence. Unfortunately, the park has been shut down, the children are abducted by Cybermen, and The Doctor is infected by the Cyber-Planner.

'Nightmare In Silver' is particularly memorable for Matt Smith's dual role as The Doctor and the Cyber-Planner, aka Mr. Clever. His performance helped him earn a role as the human embodiment of Skynet in Terminator Genisys.

4. Dark Water/Death In Heaven

Following the sudden, tragic death of Clara's boyfriend, Danny Pink, the Twelfth Doctor takes Clara on a trip to the afterlife to see if there is any hope of saving him. The already tough situation becomes even more complicated with the return of The Master (now Missy), and her plot to raise all the Earth's dead as Cybermen.

This time around, the Cybermen manage not to be overshadowed by everything else going on, at least not as completely as some of the other examples on this list. 'Dark Water/Death In Heaven is easily one of the best stories of Peter Capaldi's debut season.

5. World Enough And Time/ The Doctor Falls

A practice adventure on a strange ship for the redemption-seeking Missy quickly goes awry when Bill is shot and taken away for 'repairs'. Time moves differently on different floors of the ship, and sadly, by the time The Doctor and Nardole reach Bill, she has been converted into an early-model Cyberman. To make matters worse, a past incarnation of The Master is on board to become a devil on Missy's shoulder, nudging her back towards evil.

'World Enough And Time/The Doctor Falls' is a brilliant two-parter, action packed and high on emotion. It was a perfect penultimate adventure for The Twelfth Doctor. The only downside is the fact that John Simm's return as The Master was revealed in promos early in the series, somewhat spoiling his big reveal at the end of part one.

The Cybermen can be brilliant villains when they are used right. Let's hope the Series 12 finale knows what to do with them.
