Another Sneak Peek!

Disney has recently announced that there is going to be a special "Disney+ Day" event planned for Friday November 12, 2021. In celebrating the second anniversary of their streaming platform, Disney will be releasing a slew of specials and trailers for upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe movies and series. In addition, Disney will also be releasing a special feature cleverly titled Under the Helmet: The Legacy of Boba Fett, which will be all about the Star Wars galaxy’s most notorious bounty hunter, the one and only Boba Fett. With Book of Boba Fett slated to premiere this December, this special is clearly meant to whet the appetite of Star Wars fans for the show.

Fans have learned during season two of The Mandalorian that Boba Fett did indeed survive his ill-fated tumble into the Sarlaac pit at the beginning of Return of the Jedi. He has become a valuable ally to the titular character as he attempted to rescue Grogu from the clutches of the remnants of the Empire. In somewhat of a first for a Star Wars movie or series, fans were treated to a post-credits teaser during the second season finale of The Mandalorian. We saw Boba Fett and Fennec Shand, another new bounty hunter character introduced in the series, returning to Jabba’s place, killing Jabba’s former majordomo Bib Fortuna, and claiming his “throne.” Based on this teaser, it is probably safe to assume that Book of Boba Fett will be focusing on Boba assuming control of the late Jabba-The-Hutt's vast criminal organization along with Fennec. Despite the premiere date coming in only a couple of months, we have yet to get any additional information for the series, let alone an official trailer. It is entirely possible that this special may be a prelude of sorts to the show. If nothing else, it will remind us of how fans have come to love his character and of his past involvement within the Star Wars universe despite his brief appearance in the Skywalker saga.

Here is a quick synopsis for Under the Helmet:

“A special celebrating the origins and legacy of Star Wars’ legendary bounty hunter, Boba Fett.”

The promo video for “Disney+ Day” gave us brief images from the special. It appears that we will be getting on screen and behind the scene look at our infamous bounty hunter.

I think that it would be interesting if Under the Helmet included some of his Legends history since he has had many exciting non-canonical adventures. More likely, Disney will choose to focus on his canon appearances such as the 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special (his actual first appearance on screen), Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, Attack of the Clones, The Clone Wars, and more recently, The Mandalorian.

Based on the announcements made by Disney to date, there will not be any trailers or specials for any of the numerous live-action Star Wars series currently in development, the most highly anticipated one being Obi-Wan Kenobi, a limited live-action series about the venerated Jedi Master's exile following the events of Revenge of the Sith. Another live-action series in production is Andor, which is about Rebel Intelligence officer Cassian Andor from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. There is likewise limited information about this show as well. Other shows in various stages of development include Ahsoka, which will be a spin-off from The Mandalorian, as well as the mysterious Acolyte series, which is supposed to be set in the past during the finals days of the High Republic Era. The third season of The Mandalorian is expected to be released some time in 2022. It is entirely possible that the story of The Mandalorian may intersect with Book of Boba Fett. Perhaps Boba Fett will use the resources of his new organization to assist Din Djarin in whatever his new “quest” may be.

Despite how things unfold for the development and production of all of these Star Wars series, there are endless possibilities. Always in motion the future is. It is an exciting time to be a Star Wars fan!

The Book of Boba Fett is scheduled to release on Disney+ on December 29, 2021.
