Disney Brings Cal Kestis's Lightsaber to Life

Another One For Your Collection

The success of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order naturally lends itself to one of the things Disney loves to do the most: merchandise. With the money printing machine that is Galaxy's Edge in Disney World and Disneyland, and the upcoming announcement of Fallen Order 2, it makes sense that they would take advantage of the opportunity.

One of the admittedly coolest things that you can do at Galaxy's Edge is getting your own lightsaber based on the weapons of several different characters, such as Luke Skywalker, Count Dooku, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and even Darth Jar Jar himself. Okay, maybe not that last one (though can you imagine?) but there is still a wide selection of lightsabers and lightsaber accessories that can be yours, starting at the low, low price of $199.99. Soon, another lightsaber will be added to the legacy lightsaber collection.

Starting March 25, 2022 (yesterday as of the writing of this article) people will now be able to buy the legacy lightsaber of Cal Kestis, the protagonist of Fallen Order. As a base lightsaber, the hilt will feature the broken end seen when Kestis first got it from his master, Jaro Tapal, during the events of Order 66. Originally, the blade of the saber is blue, but the game allows for customization of the blade, especially when the original lightsaber gets destroyed. This will also be true when people purchase the hilt at Galaxy's Edge. Want to have the red lightsaber you got Cal when you played the game? Now you can!

To immerse yourself in the game even further, you can also purchase a second hilt and blade, in order to recreate the double-bladed lightsaber Cal acquires during the game itself. It will incur the cost of another blade and hilt, so that will likely make the total cost a little higher than a lot of people are willing to pay. Disney isn't the type of company to do a "buy one, get one free" deal for this kind of thing. Estimations for the total cost of the double-bladed version could feasibly range from the $400-$500 range, depending on what people want to do, though no official cost has been announced.

Now, this could also change once Fallen Order 2 comes out, depending on what the game developers do with Cal's lightsaber there. Any significant upgrades or changes will likely be reflected in customization options available at Galaxy’s Edge. It is also unknown if this will be a permanent addition to the selection, or a temporary one to celebrate the announcement of the next game, as with the Jedi Temple Guard lightsaber set. I suppose that depends on how well it sells.

Given the success of Fallen Order, it is no surprise that we are seeing Cal's lightsaber added to the list. As the canon expands and the demand for more lightsabers increases, it will not be shocking to see the lightsabers of more and more characters get added. For instance, the official list of legacy lightsabers currently does not include the lightsaber of Darth Revan, who has only recently been made canon. We may see one when the remake of Knights of the Old Republic is released. From there, it is only a short hop to Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities in Galaxy's Edge.

Everybody wants a lightsaber ever since the first time they saw a character wield one in the first Star Wars movie they saw. It is arguably the coolest weapon in all of fiction. Holding one makes you feel like a Jedi Knight traveling the galaxy righting wrongs and fighting evil. Either that or slapping your friend's hand with the cheap plastic one you got for your eighth birthday with a hilt that looks like Obi-Wan's lightsaber. The ones in the Disney parks are admittedly cool, and it makes sense that people would be willing to pony up for one. Now they will be able to get the one belonging to the latest Jedi-in-hiding who has been reluctantly drawn into another quest.
