Diego Luna Teases Some Familiar Faces Will Appear In 'Star Wars: Andor'

Who Could They Be?

Andor is on the way. The famous spy for the Rebel Alliance will soon be hitting our computer, phone, and television screens on Disney+ in the near future. We will soon see the spy from Rogue One during the early days of the Rebellion when things were at their darkest, and the heroes of A New Hope are still a few years away from entering the scene. This highly anticipated show is perhaps the franchise's first spy thriller, exploring the more grey moral areas of Star Wars. We would see how far the Rebel Alliance was willing to go to topple the evil Empire. With all the dealings, insurgency, espionage, and even assassinations, we may even be forced to ask how far is too far? Since the series is set a few years before A New Hope, there is also a high likelihood that fans will see familiar faces from the original trilogy.

During an interview with Dateline, Diego Luna, who will be reprising his role as Cassian Andor, teased that fans may be seeing some familiar faces in Andor. He did not go into any more details so as to avoid any spoilers for the upcoming show, preferring to discuss Rogue One instead.

“You’ll definitely see familiar faces. I can tell you about this project like no other because I can’t spoil the ending if you’ve seen [Stars Wars: Rogue One] already. No matter what I say, I can’t ruin the ending.”

More excitingly, Luna also confirmed in the same interview that principal photography for the series has finished, and that we are one step closer to seeing the finished product.

“We’re done with the shooting now and getting it ready for audiences to see it.”

These familiar faces could refer to anyone given the timeline of Andor. However, if we consider the era we are in, we can guess at who may be returning to the galaxy far, far away. Andor will be taking place during the height of the Rebellion. The Galactic Empire is also at its peak. Many of the villains from the original trilogy will still be very much alive. Darth Vader, Emperor Palpatine, Jabba the Hutt are roaming around somewhere. Cassian Andor being a spy means that he will also be dealing with the seedy underbelly of the galaxy at large. He may encounter familiar heroes and even villains during the course of his missions, whatever they may be. This would also be the time when Tarkin and Krennic are in the middle of building the Death Star. Thus, it is highly likely that they will appear in the series. On the opposite side of the conflict, we may also see figures like Saw Gerrera and Mon Mothma and other heroes of the Rebellion who had appeared in Rogue One.

Cameos are nothing new within the Star Wars universe. Characters show up in various projects in various forms, be it characters from the movies, cartoons, or even the comics or novels. The galaxy of Star Wars is one where everyone is interconnected in some way. Perhaps that is how the mysterious and mystical Force work, binding everyone in the universe together. Some may argue that it makes the universe smaller. On the other hand, some might say it makes the universe feel real and alive. In terms of narrative, it does not matter if the universe is big or small. It is all about telling the story. Hopefully, fans will be treated with cameos and appearances as the charismatic Cassian Andor takes us on this journey into the previously unexplored part of Star Wars.

Andor is set to release on Disney+ some time in 2022.
