Delusions of the Human Race

Not all delusions are bad.

If humans are “rational” beings ruled by reason and logic, we are certainly pushed around by our emotions. For example, humans are delusional about being the only planet in this galaxy with life on it. We came up with the idea of evolution, only to have religious people attempt to deny it because they don’t believe in evolution. In the wake of this discovery, humans do not want to face the real truth. Some feel all deities are false gods, but the thing is, faith is comforting to some people.

Even if science has proven Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution, we humans still choose not to believe it. Then again some humans find the idea of equality depressing. Obviously, they never heard of Star Trek, which to you, is a TV show, a mere fantasy.

Many Trekkies passionately believe that true equality is within humanities’ grasp someday. We value making a planet happen where truly, everybody is equal.

True equality is all about making sure that everybody gets an opportunity. Equal opportunity employers make sure that individuals are able to get their fair share. Yes, the lack of justice on the planet seems dreadfully unfair.

But the thing is, making the world a better place falls on those of us who believe in justice. Sure, obese people are overweight and it is unsightly. They have to want to lose weight. Losing weight for obese individuals can be difficult for them. Losing weight, in general, is a difficult task. Those of us who have had to lose weight, understand just how difficult the task is.

Being overweight should not be something people advocate for, even if it did happen in the United States, long ago, during the 60s. The human race needs to find a way to get better, to clean up our planet, as well as our society.

It will take more than just a century to fix this stuff. It will take concentrated efforts to do so. We need to foster group discussions rather than resort to all-out civil war. The human race has to want to change. We have problems we need to resolve such as hunger, racism, war, and a health care system that doesn’t want to be free, at least in the United States unless you find the social security system. The United States needs to face all our social ills, together.

We are on the verge of implosion with the current political climate—if only because our implosion means that we will have to take a hard look at ourselves when we are still burning fossil fuels even after that has been determined as a cause of air pollution.

We are not doing ourselves a favor by not creating jobs in which plastic is recycled. We are trying to make a living daily, at the expense of our environment even as racism is yet another problem, besides the environment, we are talking about the social environment as well. Racism is a true social ill that is still prevalent and yet another problem in our society.

Our social problems go away if we work at it. If we deranged Trekkies find a way to forge a future where we do not look at the differences between us, we look at merit. We are passionate about what kind of a future we could have.

Star Trek has inspired many people, for having a black woman on the bridge in the original series, who was from Africa, not from North America, from Africa. The future is ours to mold as we see fit. We humans need to find the courage not to get depressed about it but to do something about our present situation.
