What is a Full Moon?

A Full Moon occurs when the sun is opposite the moon, representing the peak, or climax of the lunar cycle. Throughout history, Full Moons have been known to cause unexpected events, and strange behavior. Because the two luminaries are in opposition to one another, Full Moons are known to highlight any opposing forces or polarities in your life, such as the balance between self and the other, the balance between the masculine and feminine, and the balance between work and home.

Full Moons are also good times to reflect on where you are in life, and where you are headed. While the period between the New Moon and the Full Moon is a time for setting (and achieving) goals, the period between the Full Moon and the next new moon is a time for letting go. Full Moons can also bring about climactic events, and awaken us to powerful truths and realizations. The effects of a Full Moon usually last about two weeks, until the new moon comes along and starts a new cycle.

The Full Moon in Pisces (opposite the Sun in Virgo) highlights the balance between emotional and logic, the material world verses the spiritual or the rational mind verses intuition or the heart.

It may help to think back to whatever intentions you set around the New Moon in Leo for they should be coming into fruition at this time, as well as six months back to the New Moon in Pisces. Certain themes may be repeating themselves. Whatever thoughts or intentions you plant now should come into fruition by the New Moon in Virgo on September 17th.

Check your natal chart to see which houses Virgo & Pisces fall into. This will tell you more about how the Full Moon will affect you personally.

Those with personal planets or angles 5 and 15 degrees of the mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces) will most especially be affected by this Full Moon.

September 2020's Full Moon in Pisces

The summer fun of Leo Season is coming to an end, and Virgo season is upon us. People are getting ready to go back to school, back to their everyday responsibilities. Interesting story, without even paying attention to what day it is or what was going on astrologically, when the Sun entered Virgo, I wrote down a list of things I need to get done, as a way to get myself organized. As an Earth sign ruled by Mercury, Virgo is characterized by its ability to analyze information and apply it in a direct, disciplined & organized way.

Pisces, on the other hand, a water sign traditionally ruled by Jupiter & Neptune, is more about belief than logical knowledge. Pisces is more inclined to go with the flow, letting their intuition be their guide. This is something that neurotic Virgo struggles with, requiring everything to remain in control. Virgo wants an explanation for everything but Pisces shows us that some things just can't be explained. Some things are beyond explanation. The Full Moon in Pisces brings us in touch with our more spiritual side, or not even "spiritual," per se in the sense of tarot cards and crystals or even religion, but it puts us in touch with our more heartfelt, poetic side. We're more inclined to seek the meaning behind all of life's up and downs. While Virgo wants to know how things work, Pisces wants to know why. Whats the point of working or doing anything in life if it doesn't bring us any sort of emotional fulfillment?

Our Wishes Unfolding

Virgo and Pisces may seem as different as day and night but really, they represent two sides of the same coin. This makes more sense when we consider that The Magician card in Tarot is associated not with Jupiter but with Mercury, Virgo's ruling planet. The Magician card is all about taking charge of one's own life. It reflects the idea that we are the creators of our own reality and whatever we think has the power to manifest into existence. Interestingly, the Sun's passage through the sign of Virgo corresponds with harvest season, when the crops are ripe and gathered. The sign of the virgin, often depicted holding an ear of wheat, is symbolic of the untouched and fertile's field potential to harvest the crops we want, or in more spiritual terms, it symbolizes the fruits of our labor, and the fertile minds' potential to manifest our ideas into being. The Moon in the sign of Pisces, the fish, shows us that what we want is more likely to come to fruition if we surrender to the flow of the universe and trust that everything is going to work out in our favor, even if it doesn't seem like it. When we overthink everything, or over-plan, it often backfires on us. We are better off allowing things to unfold naturally.

With the Sun in Virgo making an almost exact trine to Uranus - the Great Awakener or Liberator - at 10'33 degrees Taurus, unnecessary restrictions will be lifted, especially those that are self-imposed. Under the influence of this aspect, we feel more comfortable expressing the truth of who we are. . Likewise, the Moon in Pisces is sextile Uranus, bringing significant insights that come on us suddenly like a burst of lightening. Our intuition is heightened and we may receive visionary messages in dreams. Exciting opportunities may come about spontaneously as a result of going with the flow of things & trusting our instincts. New developments or information related to health, science, agriculture and the environment may come to light.

Meanwhile, Mercury is also in Virgo, it's home sign. Typically, Mercury in Virgo thinks in a very logical, methodical & organized way. However, Mercury at 24'03 degrees Virgo will be separating from an opposition to the planet Neptune, Pisces modern ruler, at 19'48 degrees Pisces. With both these planets in their home sign, making an opposition to each other, the primary effects of the Full Moon - that is, the Sun Virgo-Moon Pisces opposition - will be made even more intense. Our dreams are seemingly at odd with what we logically know to be true, but our wishes come into being when we combine the two. This aspect gives us the ability to dream big and to not allow the facts of our current reality to limit the power of our imaginations, because (outside of nature) everything that exists now first existed as a thought in somebody's imagination. It's important to note, however, that confused thinking & miscommunications are also possible during this time but if someone lied to us or if we've been lying to ourselves, the truth is likely getting ready to come to light.

Field of Dreams

Mercury & Neptune will both be squaring the North & South Nodes of the Moon at 26'11 degrees Gemini & Sagittarius, respectively. The North & South Node are symbolic of karma and destiny, what we need to grow and what we need to let go of. With this in mind, I'm thinking this Full Moon will bring fated events that are essentially, the consequences of our own actions or thought patterns. Things we feared or wished for may come into being or turn out to be true. We may very well find out that a weird dream we had we had the other night, or simply a vision that popped into our brains, was precognitive or telepathic in nature. The Full Moon itself may cause precognition and telepathy, especially in those whose natal placements are touched by it.

However, Venus at 25'35 degrees of the sensitive, nurturing & comfort-seeking sign of Cancer will be making an almost exact opposition to Saturn Retrograde at 25'55 degrees Capricorn. We may feel lonely or love may seem out of reach. With Saturn in it's home sign of Capricorn, ruling over governments and other major social institutions, this could be a result of literal restrictions placed on us as result of COVID-19. We may feel extra distant from others at this time. For some of us, insecurities may be interfering with our relationships at this time and we may have trouble expressing affection. To make matters even more complicated, both planets will be making a t-square to Mars in it's home sign of Aries, at 27'42 degrees. Mars square Venus can indicate sexual tension and Mars square Saturn can indicate sexual frustration or it could also represent suppressed rage. We may feel blocked from achieving our goals, maybe due to a desire to keep the peace. Our own wants may be at odd with what others want for us, or we ourselves may feel conflicted and this inner conflict is keeping us stuck at a crossroads. Our desires may feel especially intense during this Full Moon and it may be driving us crazy because we can't seem to do anything about it.

Watching Our Dreams Unfold

Conclusion

Overall, September 2nd's Full Moon in Pisces is all about turning our dreams into a reality. While the t-square between Venus, Mars and Saturn does show blockages to getting what we want or achieving what we had hoped for, whether that be love or a new job, the Full Moon is asking us not to lose faith. The Full Moon in Pisces is all about trusting the flow of the universe and letting our imaginations soar, while the Sun in Virgo takes us down the earth and gives us the tools necessary for making those ideas real. Virgo & Pisces' modern rulers, Mercury & Neptune are also in opposition to each other, in their home signs, highlighting this message and bringing about incidents of telepathy and precognition. They are also square the North & South Node in Gemini & Sagittarius, bringing about destined events, perhaps as a result of our own thought patterns. Meanwhile, the Full Moon's strongest aspect is an almost exact sextile to Uranus in Taurus, indicating a sense of freedom and excitement that comes with knowing opportunities will arise, perhaps when we least expect it. Essentially, this Full Moon in Pisces is asking us to go with the flow and be spontaneous. Even if things don't seem to be going as expected, good things will happen when we choose to make the most of it.
