A Behind-The-Scene Look

Every fan loves behind-the-scenes, bloopers, and deleted scenes from their favorite movies and shows. Disney and Lucasfilm know this very well, and recently released a new shot from a scene that was intended to be in The Mandalorian depicting a meeting between certain two characters. A Disney Gallery episode recently showcased the return of Luke Skywalker from the end of season 2 of Mandalorian, which in turn jump-started more conversation involving Book of Boba Fett and some characters that will be in that show. Of course, we do not know much since Lucasfilm and Disney are notoriously staying silent on the particulars. With the series’ scheduled release date of December 2021 coming up very soon, hopefully we will see more promotional material, or perhaps some teaser trailers some time this October or November at the latest.

Industry insiders have already referred to Book of Boba Fett as Mandalorian 2.5. After all, the spin-off series will basically be continuing the Mandalorian storyline before season 3 begins. Of course, with Lucasfilm/Disney staying quiet on almost everything concerning the show, we have no idea what exactly Book of Boba Fett will focus on. Some people are speculating that it will either begin where we left off with the cliff hanger ending from the Mandalorian season 2 finale, or it will follow the popular War of the Bounty Hunters comic series’ storyline, which has excellent materials for the Disney+ show.

Many rumors about Book of Boba Fett involve who we might see in the series, especially since the new Disney+ shows seem to love their cameos. We already know that Ming-Na Wen will be reprising her role as Fennec Shand. There are also rumors that the Mandalorian himself, Din Djarin, will also be in the series. Greef Karga is also rumored to make an appearance. Since the series will be about a certain bounty hunter, it makes sense that it will include Greef Karga and others from the Bounty Hunter’s Guild.

This begs the question of whether or not the series will feature the meeting between certain characters for the first time. A recent shot that was released, however, shows two characters that will not be meeting for the first time, at least not during filming. The video released by Industrial Light & Magic appears to be a deleted scene from The Mandalorian season 2 “Chapter 14: The Tragedy.” This was the episode when Din Djarin took Grogu to the seeing stone on planet Tython, and when viewers first saw Boba Fett in the flesh. The scene depicts Boba Fett and Greef Karga together for a teaser of what may be coming.

With Greef Karga being leader of the Bounty Hunter’s Guild (although his current status is unknown), and Boba Fett being the most notorious hunter of them all, it makes sense that their paths would have crossed many times in the past. Whether or not the deleted scene is actually showing the first meeting between Karga and Fett, it implies that there is more to their story, which could play a major role in Book of Boba Fett.

Another major theory and rumor circulating around is that Qi’ra and the Crimson Dawn are going to be the antagonist in Book of Boba Fett. From what we have seen in the War of the Bounty Hunters comics, Boba Fett is bound to take revenge on Qi’Ra for taking his ultimate prize: Han Solo encased in carbonite. Obviously, his time in the Saarlac’s stomach must have derailed whatever plans Boba Fett had. Now that he is back with more resources at his disposal, he is in the position to take down his enemies, including a particular leader of a crime syndicate. In his quest to reach the top of the underworld, he is going to need the best bounty hunters he can get, which can be where Greef Karga and Din Djarin enter the story.

Of course, this are all just fan theories and speculations. When the trailer drops hopefully this fall, everything will be clear as to what direction the series takes. With this particular deleted scene from Mandalorian, it is hard to see how it could be anything than a set-up for Book of Boba Fett. Maybe the scene was cut due to time constraints. Perhaps it is to keep the element of surprise for a certain reveal.
