Blackness and Stars

Visions of the Universe

The night sky is black as coal. If it wasn't for the stars, the blackness would seem unending. The sparkling lights bring an awe to a human's eye. But, most of all, a wonder... a wonder for what lay beyond the blackness.

Story tellers and scientists from around the globe write about the stars and the blackness. They write stories that "could be" true, and they write stories that "are true". The "could be" stories are called "science fiction", while the "are true" stories are called "science fact". But, what part is true? The "could be" or the "are"?

It takes an imaginative mind to break the barrier between science fiction and science fact. Both are routed deep in culture and heritage of many nations, of many people. As a writer, one has the chance to focus on either area. The fact could be boring, yet interesting. However, the fiction, that is pure magic.

You can't deny or prove fiction. You can only imagine and believe. The stars hold secrets that may never be fully explained. Is it Heaven? Is it nothingness? Is it adventure? Or, is it all of it?

The blackness and stars (space as it is sometimes called), creates ideas and images that form massive conclusions in so many people. However, one thing is common amongst them all... it is massive and secretive.

If humanity ever gets the ability to explore and advance into the blackness to see the stars, answers can be made. This could also create problems, concerns, and even more questions. Like Christopher Columbus sailing the the vast ocean... the end is not known until you reach it. Looking back into the past and studying our explorers, you notice a common thread. All of them desire one of three things, fame, fortune, or answers. Maybe even all three.

"Space" creates questions that torture the human mind. What if we are not alone? What will happen if humanity stretches beyond the nearest star? What will be found at the end of the voyage? It has taken over forty years to just discover the secrets of the moon and our nearest planet in our very own galaxy. However, great minds have created ways to study the blackness and the stars. Everyday something new is learned.

What if someone finds away to build a "ship" that could travel the vast blackness? Would humanity be ready for this adventure? The past shows how controversial the voyage of explorers turned out to be. Would discovering new life, new galaxies, new planets, and new stars, bring humanity closer together, or tare it apart?

Earth, now is in turmoil. Several things could end life as we know it to be. Maybe, a strong focus on the blackness and the stars could bring an end to some of the hostility on Earth. I know that many children dream of going into the blackness. They dream of reaching that beautiful star. They even get the opportunity to have a star named after them. What a joy! What excitement! Can you imagine being a child and reaching a star that was named after you? To be the one to touch a new planet, defeat the blackness.

Only dreamers and writers can create visions that may, or may not, be real. The scientists get the opportunity to create the way to try. What if we were able to put both of them together? Could we reach success and conquer the darkness?

What is in the blackness and what are the stars? Humanity will answer these questions. This is a fact only proven by the mere knowledge of what is out in the desert, and what is over the horizon of the see. That is what drives humanity to search the cosmos and reach into the depths of the blackness. It might help us get the courage to go beyond the blackness and the stars.

However, one must never forget the most important item of it all. People fear darkness at times. Just remember this if the fear gets to heavy. You can not see the stars, the moon, the planets, the galaxy without the darkness.

About the Creator

Thomas R Dorsett Jr

Writers have a unique way of putting the imagination into overdrive. I have read and re-read several different classics and wondered what it would be like to write one someday. I hope to achieve that goal by my golden years.
