March 1 was the official opening day for the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser two-night Immersive Adventure. And despite its high price tag, early reactions are positive. There have been several real-world articles about the Galactic Starcruiser as a Disney theme park adventure and how immersive it is. This article will take a more in-universe approach to the Halcyon as a luxury starcruiser within the Star Wars galaxy from its construction during the days of the High Republic era to the current voyage in the sequel trilogy. As seen in the first issue of Halcyon Legacy comic book miniseries, the Halcyon was built 275 years before the sequel trilogy. In our world, the Galactic Starcruiser was first revealed at D23 Expo 2019 and designed by Christian Alzmann. In more fun places, the construction of the Corellian MPO-1400 Purgill-class starcruiser was overseen by the Anzellian Shug Drabor, who first appeared in Daniel Jose Older’s young adult novel The High Republic: Midnight Horizon. The ship’s construction took place at the Santhe Shipyards on Corellia. It then made its maiden voyage to Batuu. Ten years into its service (about ten years after the events of Light of the Jedi), the Halcyon was rescued by Jedi Knight Nib Assek and her Padawan Burryaga Agaburry from Nihil pirates.

The Galactic Starcruiser may be a new experience at Disney World, but it is already a big player in Star Wars literature, appearing in several The High Republic books and comic books. The Halcyon first appeared in The High Republic: Mission to Disaster by Justina Ireland. It is also the primary setting for Star Wars: Halcyon Legacy, a five-issue miniseries that tells the stories aboard the Halcyon spanning its entire history. The Halcyon also appears in a flashback in The High Republic #12, which came out in December 2021. During the Clone Wars, the Halcyon was the site of a battle between Republic and Separatist agents. In addition, Jedi Anakin Skywalker engaged in a lightsaber duel here against Asajj Ventress. In an upcoming novel called The Princess and the Scoundrel, the Halcyon will serve as the location for Leia Organa and Han Solo’s honeymoon. The Princess and the Scoundrel comes out on August 16, 2022.

Let's get into specifics for the gear heads and ship people out there (like me). No, not that kind of shipping. The Halcyon is about 300 meters long, making it about the same length as the medical frigate seen at the end of The Empire Strikes Back. The Halcyon was captained by the Kel Dor Gol Ponk during the High Republic era. The Pantoran Riyola Keevan performed the same task during the war between the Resistance and the First Order. It has thirteen engines propelling it through space, two more than the other famous ship from Corellia, the blockade runner Tantive IV seen in A New Hope. The Chandrillan Star Liner holds between 100- 500 passengers and can defend itself with its turbolasers.

The luxury starcruiser consists of thirteen decks (how lucky). I guess that means turbolifts in Star Wars have a thirteenth floor. The first deck holds the hanger bay, access to the engine systems, and the carbon freezing chambers (in case you need to freeze a bounty). Deck 2 is where the escape pods are, along with the trash compactors and the creature holding bays. The third deck is where the crew offices, droids maintenance, and the lower airlock are located. Deck 4 has the passenger cabins, dining room, engineering, cargo hold, lightsaber training, and climate simulator. Deck 5 and 7 also have passenger cabins.

Deck 6 is where you can have a drink at the lounge. You will also find the atrium, the bridge, the Chandrila Collection (store), the launch pod dock, and the service desk if you lose your jewelry. The eighth deck has the atrium mezzanine, crew quarters, airlock turbolifts, loader cargo bays, and weapon systems. Deck 9 has the upper airlock, crew turbolifts, and service access. Finally, Decks 10 to13 are where the comms deck, equipment access, and navigation deck are.

Undoubtedly, the Halcyon is a beautiful vessel and has served the public with elegance for almost three centuries. As the Halcyon is a luxury starcruiser like Canto Bite is a luxury casino, we all know where their money is going.
