The OnlyFans Temptation

It's THAT easy to make eight figures a year

What if I told you that you could make eight figures a year, quite easily, by simply posting a video or photo a few times a week?

Sounds too good to be true? It sort of is.

The only catch is that it would have to be a naked or near-naked photo and everyone would know about it. Is it worth the risk to your reputation, your standing in your community, your parent’s respect and future job prospects?

This is the argument turning over in the minds of women everywhere. OnlyFans is a fairly new subscription based website that shook up the porn industry in 2019. Instead of big pornography companies making the big bucks of bright eyed twenty somethings, OnlyFans puts the power back into the hands of the creators of the content. The money goes straight into the pockets of the woman (or man) who is posting their own content. Straight out pornography makes the biggest bucks on the site, but there are plenty of women who never even do a full nude- just suggestive bikini shots or carefully angled videos and still making literal milions of dollars a month.

You do the maths. If she sets her account up at $10 a month, and has even just 300 subscribers, for many people, $2700USD/month (minus commission) is enough to make a fine living. In addition to the subscription price, the creator also receives tips in exchange for even more exclusive photos and videos, with OnlyFans website only taking a commission of 20%.

Getting subscribers is relatively easy. All you need is an instagram with provocative photos, with the promise that your Only Fans is even better, post regularly on Instagram, Reddit, Tiktok and Twitter and you’re good to go collecting subscribers. Women are even advertising on tinder.

It’s as easy and as difficult as that.

Given this insane amount of money, it’s a tempting notion but there are definitely downsides.

Your photos are not protected and people can easily take a screen shot and post them elsewhere online. Leaking is therefore inevitable. You can send as many cease and dessist warnings as you like if you find your photos online, even if they are removed they are now out in the world forever more.

Now some people might not care. The money they make might far outweigh any judgement by strangers let alone opinions of people they know. Gen Z’ers, even more than their predecessors are very about sexual freedom and owning yourself as a sexual being. So much so, that having an OF is seen as empowering and even admirable. I have yet to decide if this is a good thing or not. From what I can see, for many people, OF has meant financial freedom, power over one’s life and the respect of Generation X. Popular OF’ers like Anna Paul of Brisbane, Australia is revered as a celebrity by young girls wherever she goes. Her claim to fame is the daily Tiktok's of her lavish lifestyle, her OF account and the exorbitant amount of money its given her.

A few questions remain for me however. Is OF another social media site with an impactful but short life, soon to be taken over by the next money making fad? Or should we buckled up and accept that we’re in this for the long haul? Logic tells me to expect the latter. Sex sells. It has always sold and always will. There is power in youth and beauty and with social isolation pressing in on us like a tightly fitting mask how can we blame anyone single or otherwise for looking to fulfill their sexual or even emotional needs using a woman on OnlyFans who is ready and eager to please you for $2.99 per video?
