Sex Sells - Why This Will Never Change

A trend that preys on the weak minded.

In 1871 Pearl Tobacco had designed their cigarette box with a naked woman on it which had instantly spiked its revenue as well as realizing it had become one of the easiest ways to use sex in order to sell a product. This was just the beginning of the trend, "sex sells."

Large clothing companies like Abercrombie & Fitch or Calvin Klein, to perfumes by Dior and GUCCI all use sex to sell their products. Women naked under a blanket with a slogan that reads, "and you, what would you do for love." -Miss Dior. Women topless straddling a man while advertising their underwear.

So, I mean as successful as majority of these companies have become would you say this type of advertising is working? Absolutely yes!

People tend to steer towards the topless woman ad or the man flexing his abs before those wearing clothes. It is a known fact that humans are wired to notice sexual images. Every one wants to feel sexy, everyone wants to be sexy, and these ads prey on the weak minded and trick them into believing that the magic is in these products.

Sex sells! There's not much more to add to that. Humans are more interested in a sexual world rather than a non sexual world. Everyone wishes their boyfriend or husband, girlfriend or wife looked like these people in these ads, and so they do the next best thing and buy the underwear because it's , "sexy" or they buy the perfume because it will make them more desirable.

Are these companies brilliant? Sure! A bit ridiculous and sexist and maybe there's a little body shaming added into the mix at times? ABSOLUTELY! Or maybe that's just my opinion. But like I said they prey on the weak. Nobody's feelings count - money is all that matters here!

How about those people who spend so much time focused on those women who make a living as strippers or with those having an only fans account and they talk a bunch of shit about them and call them all these nasty names. But nothing is said when a woman is half naked on a huge billboard selling a product for a huge company which is probably owned by a man. No one criticizes it. They love it! It's either acceptable or unacceptable, pick one!

Society, "subconsciously" flows with stereotypes in order to make the top dollar. And when they are called out on it they tend to try and cover it up or so to say, "clean it up" a bit just to satisfy the viewers to ensure they remain a fan.

Money and sex is what ultimately makes the world go round. Whether it be in advertisements all over the country or right in front of your face on your screens. There's more money when there's sexual content involved, and yes it is sad, but will that change? Probably not. Will they have a child on the front of a perfume ad? No! How about clothed teenagers hanging out who just love the brand? No!

The world wants the half naked woman with her boobs out and the hot male showing his six pack of abs. That's what the world wants and I think we all know that's what it gets, because that's what makes money!

At the end of the day sex sells whether it is liked or unliked, and I think we all know that will never change. Either embrace the ads or close your eyes. Because unfortunately the world will only change if we all willingly change together. But just remember these products will not enhance any part of your life. It will not make you happier or sexier or even help you win the guy or girl. You are what it takes to win anything. You have to love yourself and love the person you see in the mirror. All of these products are just a tiny addition to your already masterpiece. Always remember that! You are what holds the magic!
