The roar of engines filled the air, carrying through the bush so easily Jane felt like she was roadside. Even the fumes seemed to make their way through the trees, and she shut her window so she wouldn’t have to breathe them in.

Every year the rally made it’s way past her property, the pristine silence of the bush marred by the noise and stink of hundreds of cars revving their engines and tearing their way through the valley.

Jane hated it.

They came because they liked the scenery, so the news said. But how could they see any of it speeding through as they did?

The squeal of tyres reached her ears, and the sound of a car slamming on the brakes as it tried to get around the corner without crashing.

She held her breath. Once that sound had been followed by the crunch of metal and shattering of glass, the news confirming a fatality.

But no, the engine roared again as the car raced up the hill, and Jane released her breath.

This was ridiculous. She put on her headphones and turned the music up loud.

It was the only way she was going to get anything done.

The sun was low in the sky by the time Jane’s playlist came to an end, and she took off her headphones, breathing a sigh of relief at the silence that greeted her ears.

The rally was over.

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK

Her heart pounded. Who could that be?

She opened the door to a tall guy, short dark hair framing friendly brown eyes.

“Uh, hi! So sorry to bother you, but my car won’t start, and my phone’s flat, and I was wondering if I could call for roadside assistance?”

“Um, sure.” Jane handed her phone over, and he turned away to make the call. He was hot, his shirt sitting nicely on his frame, his sleeves rolled part-way up his forearms, his jeans tight around a perfectly shaped butt.

“Thanks,” he said when he was done. “I’ll go wait in the car.”

“No worries. Hope you don’t have to wait long.”

He chuckled. “Thanks, but she said not to expect them within the next two hour. Seems they’ve had a lot of break-downs today.”

“Two hours?” She glanced out at the darkening sky. “You can’t wait in your car that long. Come inside. I’m about to cook dinner.”

“Are you sure?”

“Certain.”

He followed her inside, introducing himself as David, and proceeded to chop vegetables as he talked about his day.

“I’ve been following the rally for the last few days,” he told her. “I love the cars, everything about them, so sleek and shiny, and that roar!” He shook his head. “It aways gets my heart pounding.”

“Really?” Jane laughed. “I hate it. I moved out here for the serenity, I’m just so glad it’s only one day a year.”

“For real?” His eyes were wide open, the shock clear.

“Have you never met anyone who isn’t interested in cars?”

He grinned, and shrugged. “Well, yeah. But this is different, surely?”

Jane shook her head. “Nope.”

“So what are you interested in?”

She set the food on the stove, and gave him a tour of the garden, the dusk light making it difficult to see by. Inside she served up as she showed him her illustrations, and the children’s books they’d been published in.

“Wow, that’s incredible.” His eyes shone, his words genuine. Jane hadn’t met anyone like him.

They ate, and he did the dishes.

Then the phone rang.

It was the woman from roadside assist. “We’re sorry, but we’re going to be at least another hour.”

Jane took David’s hand. “Stay.”

“I can’t wear out my welcome.”

“Not at all.” She bit her lip. “Look I don’t usually do this, but do you want to come to bed?”

His pupils dilated. “Bed? To sleep?”

“To fuck.” She held his gaze. “It’s fine if you don’t want to, but it’s going to be a long time, and there’s not much to do out here.”

His Adam’s apple bobbed. “I don’t have any condoms.”

She grinned. “I do.”

She took his hand and led the way to her bedroom. He’s was quiet and shy, fumbling with his clothes as she removed her, holding back as though he was uncertain.

“You have done this before, right?”

“What? No!” He shook his head. “Oh—you just mean the sex, right?”

She nodded, and he gave a nervous laugh. “Plenty of times. Just not with someone I’ve only just met.”

She reached out and pulled him close for a kiss, her breasts pressing against his chest. His cock twitched against her thigh and she rubbed against him, eliciting a soft groan.

“You’re gorgeous.” He breathed the words, leaving a trail of kisses down her neck and across her shoulder, his hands finding her breasts as hers wrapped around his cock.

He took a nipple in his mouth, the warm wet of his tongue sending shivers down her spine.

She ran her fingers through his hair, throwing her head back as he scooped her up, carrying her the few steps to drop her on the bed, then nuzzled between her thighs.

Soon he had her gasping, clenching the bed sheets in her fists as wave after wave of pleasure took over her body, her back arching, her hips thrusting.

“Oh, fuck!” She sank against the bed, and he sat up, one corner of his mouth turned up as he watched her.

“That was good for you?”

“Damn right it was.” She sat up to reach across the bed and take a condom from her drawer. “But now I want to feel you inside me.”

His grin widened, and she lay back on the bed, watching as he rolled the condom over his pulsing cock. She pulled him closer, and he leaned over her, kissing her breasts, circling and sucking her nipples with his tongue, first one, then the other. He kissed his way back up her neck, along her jawline, meeting her lips with his as his cock pressed against her entrance, then eased inside.

“Oh my god.” She threw her head back with a groan. “That feels so good.” She kissed him again. “Fuck me, hard.”

He didn’t need to be asked twice. He pushed deeper inside her, his thrusts hard and fast as her movements met his. Soon she was coming again, and in moments he came too, his jaw clenched as he pounded deep inside her pussy.

“Ugh!” He groaned as he rolled off her, his arms flung above his head as he lay there, panting.

“That was incredible.” Jane rolled on her side to snuggle in close. She didn’t want the night to end, but her phone began to ring and she had to run through the house to find it.

“Roadside Assist is here,” she told David as he pulled on his clothes. She followed him to the door.

“You should come by again some time.”

“I’d love to.” His gaze held hers and she knew he was genuine. “But I live interstate, I only come once a year, for the rally. I’ll be back again next year, though.”

She reached up and pressed her lips against his. “I’ll look forward to it.”
