Abigail stood at the brow of the hill, her heart aching.

She should have been hiding away with her lover. Instead, she watched the ship he was on sail off over the horizon.

She hadn't even had the chance to say goodbye.

The wind picked up, the breeze pulling strands off hair loose from her bun and whipping them across her face.

"Abigail! Abi!" His voice echoed in her ears, teasing.

She closed her eyes, her heart tearing. Her mind was playing tricks. She'd been to his parent's house, they'd confirmed he was on board. Her parents wealth was enormous, his parents had appreciated the extra coin, knowing their son could return once she was married off to someone more appropriate.

"Abi!" A hand on her shoulder pulled her around, and she stared into the pale blue eyes of her lover.

"Edgar?" Her gaze flicked across his face, her mind not believing what her eyes were seeing.

"I'm here."

"Edgar!" She wrapped her arms around him, breathing deeply to inhale his scent. "What? How? Why?"

"My parents gave me half the money your parents gave them." He grinned. "I've bought us a carriage, and a horse, and have arranged passage in a ship departing from Paxton tonight."

"You're leaving?"

"Abigail, love." Edgar's hands were on her cheeks, his gaze searching out hers. "Passage for us. I have to leave, your parents will find out if I don't go. But now we have the funds to travel, together."

"Together? From Paxton? Tonight?" Abigail's mind struggled to process exactly what was happening. "But Paxton is so far away. How will we make it?"

Edgar grinned. "It'll take us half a day in the carriage, we can be on board this very afternoon, sailing away into the sunset."

She blinked, his words finally sinking in. "You've bought us a horse, with my parents money, and we're going to escape?" Excitement bubbled up inside, and she could help but jump up and down on the spot.

"You won't have to marry a stuffy old stranger, and I don't have to go away to sea without you."

"Where are we going?"

He wrapped an arm around her shoulders. "Wherever we want."

The carriage ride had been exciting for Abigail, know she was stealing away with her lover. She'd caught a glimpse of her parents from the window, ducking back so she wouldn't be seen, her heart racing with terror at the certainty they were going to be caught. But they made it to Paxton, where they bought her enough clothes and accessories for the journey, and soon they were hidden away onboard the ship as Mr and Mrs Garrick Adair.

The cabin was tiny, and they squashed into the bottom bunk, Abigail bursting into a fit of giggles.

"You're happy?" Edgar asked. She wrapped her arms around him.

"I'm ecstatic! I've never felt so happy."

"I'm glad." He pressed his lips against hers, stroking her cheek with his thumb. "You are so precious to me, Abigail. I felt so ill when I learned your parents were marrying you off. And when they learned about us, well, I felt certain I was about to lose my life!" He gave a weak chuckle. "If only they'd known that my parents believe in marrying for love, and despise any who would marry their daughter off purely for the connection it brings their family."

Abigail's heart swelled. She had loved Edgar's parents from the moment she'd met them, and now she understood why.

She kissed him again. "Make love to me, Edgar."

His thumb stilled. "Are you sure?"

She nodded. "This morning I believed you taken away across the sea, and I thought I'd missed my chance. I don't want to miss it again."

Edgar pulled her in for a kiss, the hunger she'd seen so often in his eyes now tangible in his touch. His hands fumbled with the ties on her dress as he kissed his way down her neck, and when she took over he knelt between her legs and disappeared under her skirt.

"Oh!" She gasped as his mouth found her cleft, his fingers stroking her as his tongue delved, sucking and circling, sending pleasure spiralling up her spine.

She soon gave up on her clothes, her mind a whirl at the things he was doing to her below the waist, her hands gripping the sheets as her body moved of its own accord, her back arching, her legs spreading wider, her hips tilting.

She'd never experienced anything like it, the tingling across her skin, the heat spreading through her body, the jolt of energy up her spine. Soon she was gasping, incoherent words emerging from her lips as wave after wave of pleasure swept her away.

Edgar emerged from her skirts, a satisfied grin on his face as she blinked at him, the room eventually returning to focus.

"Did you like that, my love?"

Abigail was speechless, pulling him close for a kiss, her tongue pressing between his lips to seek his.

"That was incredible," she whispered as they came up for air. "But I know that's not all there is to it."

His grin widened as he undid the ties on his trousers, dropping them to the ground. His manhood stood out in front of him, thick and hard, and Abigail reached for it, her fingers stroking the softness of the skin, then wrapping around it to squeeze it's hardness.

"That's amazing." She spoke in a whisper, aware, now, of the stirring between her legs. "And you'll fill me with this?"

He nodded. "If you still want me."

"I've always wanted to be joined with you, Edgar."

Edgar's eyes flashed, and he climbed between her legs. "I've wanted this for so long." His words were husky, sending another shiver up her spine, and she closed her eyes as he rocked his hips, filling her up bit by bit.

He began to move faster, once again sending Abigail into a spin. She grabbed his arms, gripping them tight as she opened her eyes to meet his gaze, her eyes and mouth wide as he thrust into her, making her squeal as another orgasm tore through her body.

He grunted, thrusting harder for a moment before collapsing on top of her. She wrapped her arms around him kissing him again and again as her elation settled.

"I love you, Edgar." She held him tight. "I love you."

The ship lurched beneath them, above them came the muffled shouts of the sailors as the anchor lifted, and the ship began to pull away from the port.

Edgar pressed his forehead against hers. "I love you too, Abigail. Forever."
