The fluorescent lights of the green room hummed a low, constant thrum, a sound that usually lulled me into a false sense of calm before my segment. Today, however, my heart was doing a samba in my chest. I’d been invited on This Morning to discuss my latest cookbook – a whirlwind of an experience that felt utterly surreal. I was an ordinary chef, for crying out loud, not some celebrity.
Then Holly Willoughby walked in.
She floated, more than walked, a vision in an emerald green dress that made her eyes sparkle even more. Her smile was like a lighthouse beam, instantly cutting through the nervous fog in my brain. "Oh, you must be Ron!" she chirped, her voice as warm and comforting as a cashmere blanket. She extended a hand, her grip surprisingly firm. "So thrilled to have you. I've been dying to try your spiced lamb tagine."
I managed a weak, "The pleasure's all mine, Holly." Pleasure? Understatement of the century.
The segment itself was a blur. I demoed a quick salad, tried to sound witty, and mostly just tried not to stare too obviously at Holly and Phillip Schofield. When it was over, and the credits rolled, I felt a wave of relief. I hadn’t made a fool of myself. Success!
As we walked off set, past the bustling crew, Holly paused by a discreet door. "Ron, could you spare a moment? There's something I wanted to ask you, just off-camera." Her voice was a low murmur, a private invitation. My mind, still reeling from the live broadcast, could only muster a bewildered nod.
She led me into a small, sparsely furnished office. The door clicked shut behind us, the sound amplifying the sudden intimacy of the space. My mouth was open, a half-formed "What about?" hanging unspoken. My brain, already overloaded, seemed to have short-circuited.
She stepped closer, her scent – something floral and subtly sweet – filling my nostrils. Her gaze was intense, unreadable. And then, with a mischievous glint in her eye that I'd never seen on screen, she leaned in.
Before I could even process what was happening, before a single word could escape my agape mouth, she decided to stick her tongue down my throat.
It wasn't a gentle kiss. It was a complete, unapologetic invasion. A deep, exploratory plunge that tasted faintly of mint and a thrilling, intoxicating desire. My eyes were wide, my body rigid with shock, but a primal part of me, a part that had secretly fantasized about this woman for years, ignited. I wasn't going to complain because it was Holly fucking Willoughby. My hands, initially frozen by my sides, slowly, almost tentatively, rose to grip her waist, pulling her impossibly closer. The hum of the green room faded to a distant echo as her tongue danced with mine, a secret, unexpected symphony playing out in the quiet solitude of that little room. My cookbook might have been a success, but this was an entirely different kind of triumph.
“There’s something I need to tell you, Ron.”
I braced myself, a knot forming in my stomach. Was she moving? Getting a promotion that would take her away? My mind raced through a dozen unwelcome scenarios.
She took a slow sip of her gin and tonic, her eyes never leaving mine. “My husband and I are separated.”
The words hung in the air, a delicate, fragile thing. I felt a surge of something I couldn’t quite name – shock, yes, but also a tremor of hope?
“We haven’t been happy, Ron, not for a long time,” she continued, her voice gaining a quiet strength. “The love just faded. We were more like roommates, really. Polite, perhaps, but devoid of any real connection.” She shrugged, a slight, almost imperceptible movement of her shoulders. “It was a mutual decision. We both deserve more than just existing in the same space.”
Her gaze softened, her eyes now holding a hint of vulnerability that was both disarming and utterly captivating. “It’s been a long time coming. And honestly,” she paused, taking another breath, her eyes searching mine, “it feels like a weight has been lifted.”
