Celeb Fun

part 230

By Forest GreenPublished 2 months ago • 3 min read

The air in their shared dorm room still hummed with the scent of fresh paint and nervous excitement, a palpable anticipation of the semester to come. Joey, a vision of fiery red hair and freckles, had just settled onto her bed, a slight smirk playing on her lips from Bella’s unapologetic entrance.

"Really?" Joey finally responded, her eyes, the color of a summer sky, scanning Bella's equally striking appearance. "Because you're a redhead. And from what I remember from Miami Vice, Cubans are generally not."

Bella threw her head back and let out a genuine, throaty laugh that filled the small space, a sound as rich and warm as the Cuban coffee she’d been raised on. "Ah, Miami Vice. My parents are going to love that. No, my ancestors clearly had a very adventurous spirit. And perhaps a penchant for Irish sailors." She winked, a glint of mischief dancing in her dark, almond-shaped eyes. "So, Joey. What's your story, besides being an unwitting magnet for Latin endearments?"

Joey felt a warmth spread through her cheeks that had little to do with the dormitory’s iffy heating. Bella’s gaze was disarmingly direct, and her smile, wide and inviting, made Joey’s usual reticence crumble. "Not much to tell. Just trying to survive freshman year, same as everyone else, I guess." She gestured vaguely around the still unpacked boxes. "Although I'm starting to think my survival will largely depend on my ability to understand your particular brand of charm."

Bella leaned closer, her voice dropping conspiratorially. "Oh, there's plenty to understand, mija. And I'm an excellent teacher." Her eyes flickered down to Joey’s hands, then back up to meet her gaze, a subtle, unspoken invitation hanging in the air. "But for now, how about we unpack this mystery called 'dorm life' and find out where the good coffee is? Unless you prefer Miami Vice reruns?"

Joey chuckled, the tension easing as a new kind of anticipation settled in. "Coffee sounds good. And for the record," she said, pushing herself off the bed, "I'm more of a Scarface fan. Just kidding. Mostly."

Bella clapped her hands together, a playful sparkle in her eyes. "Perfect. Then let's go, chica. Our adventure has only just begun." As they walked out, Bella's hand brushed Joey's, a brief, electrifying touch that promised a semester far more interesting than either of them had anticipated.

The rhythmic movements of Joey’s fingers on her laptop keys was the only sound in their shared dorm room, punctuated by the occasional sigh. She was buried deep in a coding assignment, a frown etched on her brow. Bella, sprawled on her own bed across the room, was sketching furiously in a worn notebook, her tongue occasionally poking out in concentration. The air was thick with the quiet hum of two distinct worlds coexisting.

Then, out of nowhere, the iconic, pulsing synth beat of the Miami Vice theme cut through the silence. Bella’s head snapped up, her eyes wide with a mischievous glint. She looked at Joey, then back at her notebook, then back at Joey, a slow grin spreading across her face. Without a word, she sprang from her bed, a lithe blur of energy, and launched herself onto Joey’s mattress, bouncing with infectious enthusiasm.

“Move over, nerd,” Bella giggled, playfully shoving Joey and her laptop to the side. Joey, startled but undeniably charmed, laughed, reluctantly closing her computer. Bella, now practically on top of her, whispered, “Operation Midnight Swim is a go.”

Later, the moonlight was their only guide as they crept through the deserted university grounds. The air was crisp, carrying the scent of damp earth and distant honeysuckle. They were a pair of shadows, giggling softly as they bypassed a motion sensor, Bella expertly jimmying a side gate. The glass walls of the natatorium loomed ahead, a shimmering beacon of forbidden pleasure.
