This is what a mature, civilization of grown-ups looks like. Our civilization, as seen on the internet, and Netflix, on the Evening News, and in most of our forms of entertainment, looks childish, pathetic, completely fake and superficial, and just plain stupid, when compared to a grown-up civilization as they have in Bhutan.

Our ad-controlled, censored internet, gives us only two options: Censored, filtered images with no female human nipples, or outright porn, one click away on redtube. That is not a civilization of grown-ups. That is a civilization of immature children, who can't make up their minds about what matters, and what does not matter. That is a civilization of bizarre posers, a small group of people-in-charge forcing other people (hundreds of millions of other people) to swallow whatever those handful of decision-makers chose to ejaculate.

21st Century Posers want us to believe they have high moral standards, or in the case of porn, the very lowest standards, with the specific goal of delivering mountains of porn, with the intention of making millions of dollars, usually through the paid advertising on those sites. We have the moral posers, and the busy Capitalist posers, showing us all how to make some cash off people's sexual needs. The people in both categories have no intention or concern for improving our civilization, or creating a civilization where grown-ups can look at erect spurting penises whenever they want to, and laugh about it, and see those erect penises as Good Luck Charms (as people do in Bhutan.) Our decision-makers are not that rational.

Our internet decision-makers, those who control what we see and hear, or attempt to control what we see or hear, do not give one small rat's ass about improving human civilization. They do nothing at all to improve human civilization. They improve cash flow to their personal and corporate bank accounts. That goal is seen as the ultimate goal of all human activity, and certainly the goal of global businesses, the global businesses which are run by the handful of people who attempt to control what we see and hear. There is nothing new in this. All governments, in all nations, regardless of political ideology, have been doing this for centuries. The people in charge want to push ONE NARRATIVE, their narrative, supported by their images and their video clips, and their tiny, narrow, self-aggrandizing views of reality. The ONE NARRATIVE serves only one purpose: to make money, to make as much money as possible, as fast as possible, and share that wealth with as few people as possible.

Why to we put up with it? We have no choice at all. Whenever the screen comes up, to click our approval for this or that cell-phone or internet app, we click it. We never read the pages of fine print. Those pages only matter to lawyers, and we get the app we want only if we agree to every little goddamn thing the lawyers write into the small print. That is the ultimate pushing of ONE NARRATIVE- forcing everyone to click on things, and sign legal documents, without every really knowing what they are signing. Or, how much privacy they are giving up with every click.

This has been the story of Facebook, Google, Amazon, and others. Making lots of noise about improving our civilization, and actually narrowing our options, narrowing our world-view, attempting to reduce all human action to those actions they can control, and make money from-- to present ONE NARRATIVE, the narrative in which the oligarchs Truly Care for the Welfare of all the peasants, as long as the peasants keep buying shit, and keep clicking on the right buttons, and doing what they are told to do.

I enjoy the benefits of digital and internet technologies as much as anyone, but I also see clearly the downside--- the pernicious undercurrent, the motivation of consumer-capitalism with no larger goal than to make money. The larger goals-- like creating a rational and humane civilization, those are rarely even talked about. Making money apparently requires Reality TV, where rappers and sports stars show us the expensive homes and their bling, and their hot wives--- and we are supposed to want to be just like that!
