9 Discreet Sex Positions for Quiet Nights in Bustling Families

There are a variety of ways to have secret sex, primarily because there are a variety of reasons why you might wish to do so.

The first method is to keep everything quiet. Perhaps you live in a large house with a lot of people, or perhaps the walls between your house and your neighbor's house are really thin. Whatever the reason, the goal is to minimize the noise to a bare minimum. The second option is to keep things understated. This is usually the goal when you're having sex somewhere you (maybe) shouldn't be or trying to avoid kids rushing your bedroom at an awkward time. Whatever the case may be, you'll want to avoid making it appear (or sound) like you're having sex.

Many people think of "excellent sex" as a specific type of sex — one that is exceptionally noisy, aggressive, and possibly experimental. However, this perspective on what makes sex fantastic is limited. Because the truth is that some of the more understated sex positions may be just as thrilling as their more overtly theatrical counterparts. In fact, keeping the act quiet, delicate, and under wraps can make it more pleasurable than it would be otherwise. As long as it's covert, quiet, close sex can be intimate and lovely! And isn't there a good reason you'd prefer a more private sex position? You want to keep things as low-key as possible. You don't always feel like putting on a big show, making a lot of noise, or, to be honest, trying very hard. Sex doesn't have to be high-intensity to be satisfying. And these low-key sex positions (all of which are quiet-toy friendly) are a terrific way to get yours without going overboard.

So take this as an open invitation to enjoy the intrinsic (and all-too-underappreciated) thrills of covert sex. See what you can come up with if you keep things quieter, subtler, and more low-key. Perhaps you'll discover a new favorite position — or a new favorite way to have sex in general.

The Fairy

The Fairy is at once modest, low-key, and delicate. Place your companion in a chair, on the couch, or on the bed's edge. They should have their backs straight and their legs skimming the ground. Then, with your back to their chest, sit on their lap. Slide up and down, or ask your partner to rock you forth and backward, with your hands on their legs for stability. You'll wind up with a position that's as delicate as it is thrilling in any case.

The Lazy Evening

The Lazy Evening is similar to spooning sex, but it's even more relaxing. Assume the traditional spoon snuggling position, then lay your legs wherever it feels most comfortable, inviting your spouse to do the same. From there, you can both prop yourself up on your elbows (but only if you want to!) and do some behind-the-back penetration. The Lazy Evening is ideal for quiet, low-key nights spent on the couch when even walking to the bedroom is too much effort.

The Louise

Invite your companion to kneel so low that their buttocks graze their toes. Then, with your legs straddling either side of their torso, facing them and kneeling down. You can then draw them in close, kiss them, and grind as slowly, tenderly, and discreetly as you like.

The Shining

The Shining is essentially just 69 spun on its head, which makes the situation even easier for everyone concerned. The Shining is a shoo-in for your secret sex position rotation because it can be as quiet, low-key, and physically inconspicuous as you want it to be.

The Ice Cream

Request that your lover sit on their knees — on the floor, in your bed, or somewhere else. Squat down till you're seated on their lap and stand over them, facing away from them, with your feet straddling either side of their knees. (Of course, there are different ways to take this position.) This one just gives you the best idea of how you should look at the conclusion of it.)

Maintain your balance by keeping your feet on the ground and resting your hands on your partner's legs for added support. From there, you can gently and quietly slide up and down or grind forward and backward.

The Lizard

The Lizard is a basic missionary that has been turned upside down to put you on top. Simply invite your spouse to lie down, then straddle them with your legs grazing their legs and your lips touching their lips. Lying down like this forces you to concentrate on both gliding and grinding, reducing the amount of noise you can create. The Lizard is a relatively discrete and quiet alternative, but cowgirl and missionary can get surprisingly raucous (particularly in your bed).

The Lotus

Request that your companion sits with their legs crossed. Then, facing them, sit within their lap and lift your legs till your knees are draped over their shoulders. They can grip your upper thighs to assist in steadying you, and you can pull them close by wrapping your hands around their head or neck. From there, play with basic in-and-out penetration that's contained enough to feel quiet, subtle, and discrete, and find an angle that feels amazing for both of you (not to mention, incredibly intimate).

The Thirst

The Thirst is a terrific way to dial up the heat without drawing too much attention to yourself, whether you're reclining in bed or snuggling on a beach somewhere. Simply lie on your side with your spouse facing you, and invite them to do the same. You can then wrap your arms around each other, entangle your legs, and remain as clothed (or as unclothed) as you choose.

The Tamer

Invite your partner to lie on their side as well, but ask them to lie perpendicular to you and move their mid-section between your thighs so that you can make eye contact. They can either penetrate you or engage in real foreplay with you from there. The Tamer will keep you from becoming overly forceful in your movement while still allowing you to try out a new position. When was the last time you had sex and a plus symbol entwined like a plus sign?
