From the village of Brockton-by-the-Sea, there once lived a girl named Sofie, considered by some to be the most beautiful of all. Many a man tried to win her love, but her heart belonged to one and only one.

Every day, she walked to the beach by the sea and stared at the horizon, watching for her true love’s ship to come back into view. Every day, she went home disappointed that he did not appear. Every night, she prayed for his return. Every night, she cried herself to sleep.

For you see, days had turned into weeks, weeks into months, and months into years, and before Sofie knew what was going on, her Pirate had been gone for the better part of two years. She had sworn to him that she would wait for him and wait for him she was going to do. For he was her true love, and no other would do.

But Sofie may have to wait even longer. For you see, Pirate Joe is her true love, and his mutinous parrot and peg leg left him on a desert island months ago. If Sofie would have known this, do you think it would have changed her mind? No, Pirate Joe was the man for her, and she had given her heart to him for keeps.

So, Sofie continued to go and walk the beach, watching for her love as the years passed by. Two years turned to five and five to ten, and Sofie was walking along the coast, staring out to the horizon, when she heard someone holler her name.

Turning to look back towards the beach towards the town, she saw a man walking towards her. She took off running towards him as he neared, for the man had a peg leg.
