To Not Go On
A Tale Inspired By "Man and Medusa" (1914) by Jeanne Mammen

Introduction
I was attracted by this image shared by The Enchanted Booklet on Facebook but was not too sure how to approach it. This is not so much about the gorgon Medusa but about someone who has lost the will to continue.
The music is "Medusa" by Amanati
To Not Go On
The candle is burning. It will be the last light in his life. He had been tempted by something, and it was what he believed would make his life perfect.
That became his focus, the only thing that mattered and one by one, every other thing in his life he let go.
And now the only thing that mattered to him was gone.
He was now in a dirty bedsit, and he was going to be evicted anyway.
He had no money, no future, and when that candle burned out, no light.
It had tempted him and ossified him like a gorgon.
He could not go on.
He had nothing.
He was nothing.
The candle spluttered and burned out.
