Chapter Two:

I couldn't help but think about Lady Aisling's influence as I walked through the castle halls. I remembered her as a member of the nobility, with a high social status and many connections that allowed her to exert her power and influence over others. During my time studying abroad in Ireland, I had learned about the intricate social and political systems that governed the lives of the people. The noble families held great sway over the actions and decisions of the common people, and Lady Aisling was no exception.

I remembered hearing about her involvement in various political and social movements, as well as her ability to sway the opinions of others. Her influence extended beyond just her own family and into the affairs of other noble families as well. Despite her power and connections, Lady Aisling had always carried herself with grace and poise.

As I walked, I couldn't help but wonder if Lady Aisling's influence extended to the secrets of the castle as well. Perhaps she had some knowledge of the hidden rooms and secret passageways that I was so determined to uncover. Or maybe she had some connection to my own ancestors who were involved with the castle. Regardless of her potential involvement in the castle's secrets, I knew that Lady Aisling was a formidable figure whose influence would be felt throughout the castle and beyond.

I walked down the hallway, my eyes darting around as I tried to find a way to the gardens. Suddenly, I spotted a door that I had almost walked past. It was slightly ajar, and I could see the glow of flickering candles coming from within. Curiosity getting the better of me, I pushed the door open and stepped inside.

The room was massive, with towering bookshelves lining the walls and a large fireplace at the far end. The air was thick with the scent of old books and the flickering flames of the candles. As I looked around in awe, I realized that I had stumbled upon the library. It was a place I had heard about during my study abroad program, but had never had the chance to visit because it was destroyed in my time.

I slowly walked towards one of the bookshelves, my fingers trailing over the spines of the books. I took a deep breath and made my way deeper into the room, my eyes scanning the titles on the shelves. I felt in awe of what was before me. Lost in thought, I didn't even notice the sound of footsteps approaching until it was too late. I turned to face the door, my heart racing with fear. But as the figure stepped into the light, I saw that it was just one of the castle's servants.

"My apologies," The servant said with a bow. "I see you have found the library. It is a place of great knowledge and power. Many secrets are kept within these walls."

I nodded, still in shock from the unexpected encounter. But as the servant left, I realized that I had stumbled upon something truly special.

I made my way through the dimly lit library, my footsteps muffled by the thick carpet beneath my feet. As I searched for a book on the shelves, I heard the sound of more footsteps approaching. I quickly moved behind a large bookshelf, hoping to remain unseen. The footsteps grew louder, and I could hear the murmur of voices. Two men walked into the library, their conversation hushed and urgent. I strained to hear what they were saying, realizing that they were discussing something important.

I peeked through the books on the shelf and saw the men huddled together, their voices low. One of them was holding a piece of paper, and the other was nodding in agreement as they spoke. I couldn't quite make out what they were saying, but I could sense the urgency in their tone. Whatever they were discussing, it was clearly of great importance. I realized that I was in a precarious situation, hidden behind the bookshelf and eavesdropping on a private conversation. But my curiosity got the best of me, and I stayed put, trying my best to listen without being detected.

As the men continued to talk, I couldn't help but wonder what they were discussing. Was it related to the secrets of the castle, or was it something else entirely? I knew that I shouldn't be listening in, but I couldn't bring myself to move from my hiding spot. Finally, the men finished their conversation and walked out of the library, their footsteps fading into the distance. I let out a sigh of relief and emerged from my hiding spot, my heart racing with excitement and the thrill of the unknown.

Exhaling deeply, I headed towards the door, knowing I had to return to the great hall to find out what was happening. There were rumors that a member of the royal family was present and about to make an announcement. Despite my disappointment, my search for information about my ancestors would have to be put on hold. Part of my reason for being at the castle was to learn more about the ancestor I had recently discovered had ties to this place, but it seemed that would have to wait.

Upon returning to the great hall, I immediately noticed a gathering of people, all fixated on a man who was making his way towards the front of the crowd. As I gazed upon the man with red hair and piercing green eyes, I couldn't help but feel captivated by his lithe figure and confident stride. His every step seemed purposeful, and there was an air of importance about him that was palpable even from a distance.

As he moved through the crowd, people turned to watch him, their eyes following his every move. It was clear that this was a man of significance, and his mere presence commanded attention. Despite his striking appearance, there was something approachable about him that drew me in, and I found myself wanting to know more about this intriguing figure who had captured the attention of so many.

As the man with red hair and piercing green eyes stepped forward to make his announcement, the crowd grew silent in anticipation. His voice boomed through the hall as he spoke of an important alliance with a neighboring kingdom, and I could feel the weight of his words in the air.

He spoke of the benefits of this alliance, of how it would bring peace and prosperity to our people. With this alliance, we would have the support of a powerful ally, and together, we would be able to face any challenge that came our way.

As I listened to his words, I couldn't help but feel a sense of pride in our kingdom and in the man who stood before us. This alliance was not just a strategic move, it was a symbol of hope for our future, a sign that we were not alone in this world.

The man's voice grew stronger as he spoke of the importance of unity, of how we must stand together as a people in order to overcome the challenges that lay ahead. And as he finished his announcement, I felt a renewed sense of determination to do my part in making this alliance a success.

For in the end, it was not just about the alliance itself, but about what it represented: a brighter future for our people and a world where we could all live in peace and prosperity.

A chill ran down my spine as I realized that I have been speaking of this world as though it was my home. It is strange to feel a sense of familiarity in a place that I have only known for a short time, and the use of "we" and "our" only solidified that feeling.

My time here is limited, and I only have three short months before I will have to return to my own time. It is a daunting thought, and I can't help but feel a sense of sadness at the prospect of leaving this world and the people in it behind. Even though I haven't built any relationships with them, being surrounded by these people makes you feel a certain way.

As the man finished his announcement, our eyes met and he tilted his head in my direction. Suddenly, my insides turned and my heart began pounding in my chest. It was as though my body knew that he was going to try to speak to me.

In that moment, I was at a loss for what to do. Should I walk quickly in another direction to avoid him? Or should I stay and see what he had to say? The decision weighed heavily on me as I tried to steady my nerves and gather my thoughts.

Prince Earl approached me with a curious look in his eyes. "I don't think we've met before. What's your name?" he asked.

"Uh, my name is Seren," I replied, trying to keep my voice steady.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Seren," he said, flashing me a charming smile. "Have you lived here long?"

"Actually, my family and I just moved here recently," I answered, avoiding eye contact.

"I see," he said, nodding. "What brought you all here?"

"Well, my parents were looking for a change of scenery," I improvised, hoping he wouldn't press me for more details.

"That's understandable," he said. "What do your parents do for a living?"

"Uh, they're in business," I said vaguely, mentally kicking myself for not coming up with a better cover story.

Prince Earl raised an eyebrow, clearly skeptical, but he didn't push the issue. Soon after, a man walked up to Prince Earl and tapped him on the shoulder, catching his attention.

"Excuse me, Your Highness," the man said, "but we need to discuss some urgent business in private."

Prince Earl turned to me and said, "I apologize, Seren, but duty calls. It was nice speaking with you, and I hope to see you again soon."

I nodded, feeling a sense of relief mixed with disappointment. It was nice to have someone to talk to, but at the same time, I was glad to be free from the intense gaze of a prince. I watched as he made his way through the crowd, feeling uneasy with the brief conversation we had shared. I needed to start to get my information figured out so that I'm not caught in a lie. I need to be more careful.

I was lost in thought, wandering the hallways of the castle long after the announcement had ended. The darkness of the night had begun to envelope the castle and the only light came from flickering torches on the walls. I stopped in a quiet hallway, taking a deep breath to collect my thoughts.

Suddenly, I felt a pair of strong arms wrap around me from behind, pulling me close. My heart skipped a beat as I was pressed against the wall, and I felt warm lips on the back of my neck. The familiar scent of sandalwood filled my nostrils.

He whispered sweet nothings in my ear, his breath sending shivers down my spine.

He leaned in to kiss me, a grin spread across his face. "I've missed you," he said, his voice low and husky. "I couldn't wait any longer to see you."

I was caught off guard, and everything happened so fast that I didn't have the chance to stop him. As he pressed me against the wall, his lips met mine in a tender kiss, and I was momentarily lost in the moment. It took me a moment to realize what was happening and find my voice. "Marie," he whispered against my neck, and I pulled back, confusion etched on my face.
