The Ranger In The Garden

The Southern Storm Front

Somewhere in the legendary garden on Profit Ability Island Ranger Gotham was tending to his red, white, and blue uniform duties guarding the almighty dollar.

“Ranger Gotham,” a voice called from the darkness, “did you hear about the hurricane coming?”

“Well, if it isn’t Benjamin Moore, my dear friend who always puts a nice coat on things,”

“There is a storm front coming, I heard it on the radio,” the affluent businessperson known for sponsorship reported.

“What type of hurricane?”

“One from down south,” Benjamin continued, “not sure if it is the one in Carolina or Florida.”

“Florida?” Ranger Gotham questioned hearing they count their lucky Celtic clover Leafs down there due to all the heat.

“No, this is a professional franchise hurricane not a collegiate hard rock spectacle,” Benjamin seemed concerned since his paint jobs may have to be redone due to all the rain.

“I see,” Ranger Gotham replied, “I think I should go inside my corporate cubicle cabin and prepare for this ‘Carolina Hurricane’,”

A few minutes later Ranger Gotham found himself using a key attached to a stone and despite a couple overtime nights the pens were locked up for the summer months.

“Well, have a good summer, pens,” he wished the icy writing instruments well, “we have a hurricane now on the schedule so I must put away my creative writing story telling tales from this legendary garden. “

Suddenly, he noticed the fireplace flames continuing to flicker and decided to go outside to enjoy the stars during the time when an eclipse was rumored connected to a red blood moon.

“I always thought of myself as a maverick here on this island whose streets were paved with gold,” Ranger Gotham thought, “and watching the sun go out may have answers on handling the visit from the hurricane.”

As the midnight hour approached Ranger Gotham could hear nature communicate, “hey you Broadway blues,” something in the dark said.

Turning around Ranger Gotham saw a warrior canary who flew in from the wharf, “I have this big weekend, coming up.”

“I thought you were relegated?”

“That was Norwich City Canary, I am the one that lives it up at one Canadian place,” the west end financial wizard spoke, “think of me as the one who dodges everything like Chelsea singing the blues.”

“I didn’t know Chelsea belted out the blues,”

“Neither did Chelsea and magically she was working the Karaoke machine on Eurovision!”

Starting to gain confidence that the canary knew what he was doing Ranger Gotham decided to obtain much needed background advice, “what do you know about this hurricane coming from one of the Carolinas?”

“Well,” the Canary spoke, “after my big day, you know, the Carolinas will be the place for money, not points.”

“What about the puck in goals?” Ranger Gotham started to conjure up some disturbing feelings about the upcoming two-day holiday.

“I have no clue about puck in goals,” the Canary admitted, “but they went the distance with a bruin recently and was giving the decision.”

“Well, thank you very much, Mr. Canary,” Ranger Gotham acknowledged.

“I need to get back to the one place the Canadians go on the wharf for canaries,” the bird whistled before flying off to his artistic canvas that used the same Benjamin Moore’s, red, white and blue colors.

Reflecting about the strategy and realizing by the Monday morning post in the daily news mail there should be good direction on the hurricane potential. Going back into the wooden office space Ranger Gotham sat next to the window and noticed lightning way off in the distance. Grabbing binoculars left behind when Schuster Simon did a reading, he peered out to witness a panther's pack observing the electrical light show.

“Yes, a hurricane will soon be here,” Ranger Gotham pondered, “I am sure after a few rough moments I will either be challenging the lightning or a panther.”
