Listen close kiddos it’s time for another story. This one is about a little blue bean named Numpty and his mission to find the comfiest pillow before bedtime. The day had been full of adventures of its own. The beans had sung their songs and played their games. The birds had chirped their tunes and the bees had buzzed along. The day was magical but soon to be over. It was almost time for the sun to set and the moon to light up the night sky with its silvery gleam. Numpty however, still had a very important quest to complete before he could cozy up in his treehouse bed. He was yet to find the comfiest pillow in all the land.

Numpty was a restless bean, set on finding the most perfect pillow before going to sleep. He marched along the river flowing just past his treehouse, looking for something that could be considered the perfect pillow, when he came across a big rectangular rock. Surely if it looks like a pillow it must feel like one? Numpty didn’t hesitate to rest his head on the rock to test its softness. As expected from a rock, it was cold and hard. He rolled over once and rolled over again. Numpty rolled over a third time just to be sure. This was the most uncomfortable pillow he had ever come across. His search for the comfiest pillow was far from over.

He continued on along the riverside, searching and searching until he came across a beautifully colored flower patch. Surely if it looks soft and has a flowery aroma it must be comfy? Numpty rested his head and to his surprise, the flowers made a pretty decent pillow. He was enjoying what he thought was the solution to his troubles, until a faint buzzing noise filled his ears. When Numpty opened his eyes he was met by a few buzzing bees, not very pleased the he was sleeping on their flowers. Numpty quickly stood up, said his goodbyes to the bees and hurried off along the riverside, continuing his search. Numpty was feeling down. He started to question whether or not the comfiest pillow could be found. He stared to wonder whether or not it existed.

He was walking face down, kicking pebbles and sand out of his way as he goes on until something suddenly caught his eye. Right next to the river bank, sticking out from the ground, was a perfectly rounded tree stump. Numpty looked around for any signs of bees in the area, just to be sure. Surely if it looks like a pillow it must feel like one? He lied down and rested his head to test his theory. Much to his disappointment, it was almost as uncomfortable as the rock he had tried earlier. The stump was hard and splintery and Numpty would never be able to fall asleep with a pillow like this. Unfortunately for Numpty his search was not over yet.

Numpty was feeling a little discouraged. The day was almost over. The bees are buzzing their way back to their hive and the birds were tucking their little ones into their nest. Every other bean had made their way back to their own homes as well. Only Numpty was left to find what he was looking for. He marched on; eyes open for anything that might work as a snuggly pillow when he spotted something in the distance that looked quite intriguing.

As Numpty got closer he could start to see the shape and size of what was lying in front of him. It was huge; almost five times the size of Numpty. It was covered in brown fur and looked like the most comfortable pillow Numpty had ever laid his eyes on. He quickly rested his head to test the level of comfort of this magnificent ball of brown fluff. It was glorious! It was the comfiest pillow that Numpty had ever laid his head on. He slowly began to close his eyes and drift off to sleep when the sudden feeling of rising up and lowering down again and again came from the pillow he was resting on. Numpty gave it a minute. Surely it was his imagination, right? After a little while longer Numpty started hearing soft snores coming from his pillow. Pillows aren’t supposed to make that noise.

Numpty got up to inspect where these strange sounds are coming from. He took a lap around the pillow and another one to make sure that his eyes were not lying about what he just saw. There, right in front of Numpty was a huge grizzly bear. Careful not to wake him up, Numpty slowly tiptoed away from the sleeping bear, again loosing what he thought would be a good pillow.

Numpty gave up. It seemed like an endless quest. He just couldn’t find the comfiest pillow in all the land. He started making his way back home, walking along the riverside. He passed a few pillow shaped rocks before something reached his sight. Straight up ahead, not more than a few meters from his treehouse was something Numpty had never noticed before; a big bush overflowing with cotton balls. They were soft to the touch and as white as the purest snow. Numpty quickly plucked as many as he could carry, hurrying home with an idea in mind. When he reached his home he grabbed a pillow case and stuffed it full, creating the perfect pillow.

Not sparing another moment, Numpty laid his head down to test the softness of the pillow and to his excitement it was the softest he had ever felt. He gave it a moment to make sure nothing would go wrong with this pillow and to his joy, nothing did. Numpty was the happiest he’d ever been he found his perfect pillow and soon he’d feel the warm comfort of sleep. He snuggled up in his treehouse bed, making sure not to forget his pillow. It only took a few moments before sleep fell over Numpty like a soft cloud, bringing along all sorts of sleepy adventures and good dreams.

THE END.
